Due to the fact that this was a gift, I wasn't sure if I should order it without seeing it in person first. Although I was hesitant to take the chance, I chose to do so due to the pictures. I think it is exquisitely elegant in its appearance, and it will certainly attract attention. Since I am not an expert, I cannot confirm the accuracy of this statement, but my husband verified that words as he pertains to his line of work, as he does quite a bit of field navigation himself. I felt there was one negative thing worth pointing out, however. appreciate that it even comes in a leather case. The concept of it is very appealing, and I appreciate that it comes in such Although the case was damaged, and the clasp was rusted and warped, the strap was still worn. The case came undone in the package, and since it was damaged, the strap on the case was no longer tight enough to close. For now, we will probably cut an additional notch into the strap to make it fit, but eventually we will replace the case all together. The only reason I'm only rating it four stars instead of five is because it is difficult to read on some of the larger screens. However, the compass itself is beautiful and I would recommend it!.

I wasn't expecting perfection, but it measured up with a ceramic sundial I made and it was equal. There was a slight stickiness in the needle, but that probably came from it being new. Otherwise, there were no problems. The science experiment I'm preparing should be fun and serve as a good start for my nephew's interest in these sorts of things. He's a bit of a science buff, so it'll hopefully help get him interested.
