You could probably get away with 6", but I'm not sure how much taller would look. I'm using 5" fat, automatic electric candles, which are working well.
I believe that is the case, so I purchased black with white fake candles to place on top.

Having said that, I decided to keep them because they're still quite lovely! They're more of a white color with brushed gold accents. I added two photos to show actual color: one in more dim lighting of all three candle holders, and the other in a bright room with one of the candle holders.
The pillar candle holders appear to be gray in this photograph. I emailed the seller to ask for clarification, and they promptly responded. They're white and gold, they said, and they're going to re-create them. Take the pictures. They appear to be pale gold with white distressing to my eyes. They are something I adore. I've been looking for a trio of candle holders like these for a while and have found that most are ridiculously expensive, so 5 stars for value and seller responsiveness. So keep that in mind if you're looking for a gray item for your home. That's not the case.
These candlesticks were ideal for the space I had in mind. The proportions and design appeal to me.
These are for you if you like to decorate with an Italian or Spanish flair, or a contemporary/traditional flair, or whatever. They're sturdy, go with a variety of candle colors, and appear to be very expensive, despite the fact that they're not. When I first got mine, I couldn't believe how lovely they were and how adaptable they'd become for me as my front room's color scheme changed. This is all I have to say about it. They are my favorite. You, I believe, will as well.

They're a lot bigger than I expected (hand in photo for scale). These were an excellent purchase in my opinion.
While these are stunning, the photo's color is off. This appears to be grey, which is exactly what I want, but it's actually a soft gold color right out of the box. I like the gold, but it's not exactly what I was looking for, so I'm giving it two stars.
These are very nice, but I had to give three stars because the medium one had some strange glue or sap-like substance within the bag, indicating that it was packaged that way, and the largest one has a dent, indicating that it was packaged that way because it came in an individual foam bag. br>I loved the packaging. br>Nice felt bottoms and a sturdy candle stand, which I intend to replace!.
