We used these lanterns as the centerpiece at our engagement party, in combination with battery operated candles (separately available). The base held somewhat, but the threading didn't hold the base in properly, so if a candle were put in there it would be tilted. So I was going to ask for a replacement, but when I assembled the top part, the base did not hold in properly. These were not confined to the lantern I bought, but to the whole array of half a dozen. On top of this, I found out that my local craft store has better ones that actually work for half the price. These are flimsy and exceptionally poor quality for products that are made in China. The total number of boxes that I purchased as gift favors for a bridal shower was six. The lanterns were not inspected until the night before the shower, which was quite a mistake on my part. In 30 out of 30 windows, one was missing a pane of glass during installation 6 others were painted flat white. It had the same glossy white finish as all the others, with imperfections on each box. The paint was smeared, the tealight holders bent, and there were chips in the paint. Just make sure you inspect the lanterns when you receive them rather than the night before your event. It's unwise to try to pick them up with a candle inside, none would come out. Although they're really cute with tea light candles, the bottom piece that is removed to insert the tea light will not close properly so it's not advisable to do so.
