It doesn't "burn out" because it retains your body heat and isn't electric. It's an excellent substitute for electric blankets. When it's really cold outside, I put a heating pad under the weighted blanket while getting ready for bed - It's nice and toasty when it comes time to eat! It's a lot less expensive than buying them repeatedly.

Because the numbers used to select the heat temperature are not illuminated, changing the temperature in the dark is impossible. A light must be turned on. What a letdown!.
This was a gift for my mother, who is 94 years old. It's always cold in the law department. She adores it, and she can stay warm all night without the rest of us succumbing to heat exhaustion. We can now turn on the air conditioner whenever we want.
This blanket appeals to me. I'm not sure what I was doing before it came into my life; my dial does not resemble the one pictured. When you want it to turn on, there's a dial and a button to press. After 10 hours, it will turn off on its own. I can turn the dial all the way up to 9, but any higher than level 3 causes me to wake up in a cold sweat. It's incredibly gentle on the skin.
I've purchased several of these blankets and this one is by far the best.
