Questions & Answers

Is there anyone out there who has used this device to improve valve finger dexterity on the trumpet?

Scott, I'm a guitarist who uses the Varigrip to strengthen my fingers and forearms, but I think it'd be great for a trumpet player who wants to improve their finger mobility and dexterity. Set it to the lowest tension and practice scales or tunes with it. It's great for when you have some spare time and want to save your chops for the important stuff.

Do you believe an eight-year-old child is capable of making decisions on his or her own? Is this exerciser suitable for an elderly lefty? He needs to strengthen and improve his dexterity in his fingers. ?

I instruct kids on how to play the guitar. My 8-year-old student lacked the physical strength to depress any of the buttons, and he quickly became frustrated. We had it on the loosest setting, but his small hands were still experiencing too much resistance. That's an entirely different matter. It's far too large for small hands to comfortably wrap around.

Does this make a lot of noise? Could you hear the springs on this creaking in a quiet office environment?

To make it harder or easier, you can adjust the spring resistance. It's relatively quiet when there's less resistance. It is more audible when there is greater resistance. It's not particularly loud, but if you're in close quarters with your coworkers, they're likely to hear it. Nonetheless, I would recommend this product because it can be used as a forearm workout as well as a finger strengthener.

What does this mean in terms of violin?

I play the guitar and piano, which are similar in some ways to the violin. This would most likely be just as useful for other instruments as it is for guitar. It's excellent for strengthening and maintaining a consistent practice and pattern. I believe it would be suitable for violin:

It's fantastic after a quick modification! The simulated strings are simply bumps under the grip, but when you reverse the grip, it becomes wobbly (see photos 2 and 3)
4/5

3), and because the rubber grip is prone to slipping, I left it in its original spot and stapled each of the finger "buttons" - Now that I'm at my desk, I can work on developing callouses on each of my fingers.

I was completely taken aback by this
4/5

So I got this just to keep up with my guitar playing while I'm at work. I had no idea this could be used to improve performance in the way it has, and in such a short period of time! I thought it was just a gimmick at first. I was mistaken, to be sure. br>br>This is a fantastic device. Because it's all plastic, the action isn't as smooth as it could be, but the results after a week of use astounded me! The dexterity and strength of the fingers have improved noticeably. I've been playing for about 30 years and was blown away by how much this thing improved my game. It's important not to press each plunger as if you were riffing. Take it out of your pocket and press and hold each plunger for 6 seconds, one finger at a time, as many times as you can. Trust me, the difference in the feel of your guitar after a week will astound you. Bending will be a breeze, and your hammering speed will be lightning fast. ons increased as a result of improved accuracy. This isn't a joke; I was taken aback. br>br>For those who are wondering, "Where is the simulated string to keep callous?" Remove the gray rubber piece that cushions your palm on the opposite side of the plungers to reveal three simulated 10 gauge E strings. " These also surprised me with how well they helped me build callous on my pinky, which I don't use nearly enough! I simply press each of my four fingers into the " strings " and hold them there. The final product is spectacular. This isn't just for n00bs, so give it a shot!.

Not only for guitar and piano, but also for other instruments! This was purchased as a gift for my father, who had a T
5/5

A small stroke, also known as a transient ischemic attack. He had a problem with his dominant left hand. He works as a barber, so this has a significant impact on him. br>br>His index and ringer fingers were doing well, but his pinky and ring finger were taking longer to heal. Because of the individual finger settings, the Varigrip helps with the two fingers that are behind the rest. Along with its original purpose, I would recommend it to people who require hand rehab as a result of injury. Thank you. br>br>.

I've been playing for 15 years and this thing has significantly improved my game
5/5

For the past 15 years or so, I've been playing guitar. I've been playing for 16 years, and while I'm not the best player in the world, I'm a long way from the start. Despite practicing regularly, there are still some things I struggle with, such as shaky hands and sloppy playing. br>br>I've only had this for a week, but it's already helped me improve my technique. I'm actually kicking myself for not purchasing one of these earlier. For years, I just assumed that I was a bad player who could improve by practicing more. br>br>While this is true to some extent, I eventually reached a plateau. Increasing the strength of my fretting hand has helped me become not only more accurate, but also faster. br>br>I don't want to come across as a pushy salesman, but it's really helped me a lot in such a short time; I'm curious where my playing would be now if I'd gotten it years ago, but I'm excited to see where it'll go with the increased strength and dexterity.

It's possible that it saved me from never playing again
5/5

I awoke about three months ago with a persistent tingling numbness in my left pinky and my pinky, ring, and middle fingers almost immobile on the side; I'd severely compressed my ulnar nerve in my cubital tunnel (elbow) and, despite surgery, I'm still without sensation. It is carried out in order to prevent it from worsening. Devastating. br>br> Playing for the past 25 years has come to an end. br>br>About a month after surgery, the numbness had spread a little, and I felt like I was playing with carrots for fingers when I picked up my guitar for the first time. There is nothing I can do. I couldn't even make an open chord or crawl through a pentatonic scale. br>br>By chance, my next-door neighbor (who doesn't even play) had one of these DAddario hand exercisers that his ex-girlfriend had. girlfriend had abandoned him a long time before. "What could it hurt?" I reasoned. br>br>At first, I had to use my right hand to hold my fingers on it one at a time, but I could tell things were changing after a few days. After a few weeks, I was able to hold it in one hand and, to some extent, push down all of the plungers. As I continued to walk, I could feel the tendons in my elbow begin to "turn back on," and the numbness began to fade as the line between my pinky and elbow became stronger. I bought this one in case the older one broke down and I didn't want to have to stop working.

About a week ago, I woke up and went about my morning routine for a good 30 mins before I noticed that my hand was 100% normal before I not I'm not sure how it happened because the incremental progress I'd seen hadn't been moving at all. I picked up the guitar, played flawless C-major chords, and walked away. In A, I first formed a major scale, then doubled it in four-note sections. I was faster after the surgery than I had been previously. br>br>This apparatus is functional. Even if the injury had not occurred. Thank you, DAddario, and whoever else was involved in its creation.

This is not the model shown
3/5

has a grip that is contoured I have one at work and I adore it. However, when I went to buy one for home, they had updated the model to include a contoured grip, which I don't like nearly as much. It may seem nitpicky, but I think the flat grip is better for developing finger dexterity because you can move your thumb around on the back grip if you want to, whereas the moulded grip locks your hand into one position, which seems better for strictly developing strength. I don't think the change is an improvement, and it's certainly not what was advertised, so I'm returning it.
