"The time is four twenty PM," it would say.
It's ideal for someone who is almost blind and has severe hearing loss. It's a very loud voice. My mother, who is 92 years old, believes that the button is useful when she remembers to press it. She can see and hear fairly well most of the time; her main difficulty is remembering the time and date, as well as remembering to press the button.
I'm not sure what the differences are between the variously priced clocks. The $25. Because 99 clock does what we need it to do (allow a newly blind person to determine the time of day), I haven't used all of its modalities.

This item has been returned to me. I ordered twice because the first one was defective, hoping that the second would not be, but the second one had the same quality defect as the first--a missing set button. If you try to set the time and date, the button moves, making it difficult; it's not worth messing with, and if the manufacturer can't get a critical component right, the rest of the product is probably a bust. I did press the time button, and the voice muffles the minutes. Don't buy anything!.
OWEVER. I USED TO HAVE THIS CLOCK AND REORDERED IT WHEN MY OWN BROKE. I BELIEVE THIS ONE WAS MADE BY A NEW COMPANY IN NEW YORK. THE VOICE HAS BEEN IMPROVED IMMENSELY. BUT WHEN I TRIED TO INSERT THE BATTERIES, I FOUND THAT THERE IS A TINY SCREW TO REVOVE THE BATTERY COVER. NOW I'M GOING TO BUY A TLKING CLOCK BECAUSE I CAN'T EVEN SEE. THERE WAS NO TOOL PROVIDED TO REMOVE THE SCREW. THEN I WENT TO THE CLOCK TO SET IT. IT HAS THE SAME SET BUTTON AS THE OLD MODEL, BUT I WAS UNABLE TO SET IT WHEN I FOLLOWED THEIR INSTRUCTIONS. THROUGH TRIAL AND ERROR, I DETERMINED THAT PUSHING THE BUTTON IN WITH A BALLPOINT PEN WORKED LIKE THE DIRECTIONS. ON THE OLD MODEL, YOU JUST PRESSED THE SET BUTTON WITH YOUR FINGERR.
This is an excellent clock for people who have trouble seeing or remembering things. My wife is legally blind, so I purchased one for her. It was simple to set up, and the large white area on top made it easy for her to push with her poor vision. My next-door neighbor's eyesight is failing him, and he has trouble remembering the date. I also got one for him, and he really likes it. This clock is ideal for anyone who has trouble reading a clock or remembering the date or day of the week.

It's difficult for her to get her head in the right position to read the numbers on a large numbered clock.
