There is enough stability in the holder for it to hold a cup, but it is too tall to hold most coffee cups. It would hold a cup that is slightly taller.
Holding the holder is a bit difficult due to its stiffness. It would be difficult to use for someone with arthritic hands due to the springs being tight.
