You cannot use this to reach the bathtub or get in or out of it. Initially I only used it to lift one leg(the leg closest to the bed) off the ground and into If you tried to hold on to the strap with only 1 hand while maintaining your balance to get in and out of the tub, it would be unsafe. After recovering from a long medical disability, I bought this lifting strap to help me to stabilize my body. It was a great leg strap that helped me strengthen my leg so I did not have to rely on someone to help me get to the doctor or get into my bed while I trained it to be stronger. After I no longer needed help with these chores, I grew selfish and kept it in my storage instead of passing it on to someone else. If I need it again, I will always have it in my storage. It's not always possible for me to rely on some of the things that make me productive to be available when I need them. If you are not looking to always depend on others for assistance, I highly recommend this book to you.
It was difficult to nearly impossible (and very painful) to get my leg up on a It's really helpful to have this. When I was using a strap, I found I did best if my foot/leg was firmly pressed and held in place, so my legs were lifted and with my arm instead of my foot. There was a reduction in pain following that. My PT said it was important for me to exercise my leg muscles, but it hurt too much when I did so right after surgery. My leg started aching again after about two weeks, so I gave myself a break and started trying to lift it on my own. I do not believe excessive suffering is necessary.
