The clear plastic part of the fork slides right into the fork and spoon slot. It is a very sturdy part. My utensils allow me to eat at restaurants and everywhere without worrying about bringing them with me. The palm of my hand is fairly thin. I love how snugly it fits. I don't think my mother, who is 88, would like it. A hand tremor afflicts her and she has severe anxiety Food is hard to come by for her. This is her favorite book & she loves reading it I really like how easy this is There was a bit of a tight feeling in the rounded part of the handle that lies across the top of the hand. Overnight, I put a metal straw in a cup to stretch.
One thing cannot be done without instructions. Having to use it for another would be challenging for her. A stroke had left her unable to grasp the utensil, so she needed something to help her grasp it We just weren't able to pull this off.
