I had visitors for a while, and I have no idea what was going down the drain, but I began to get tiny drain flies. I can't stand having bugs in the house, and they've only gotten worse. I found out why one of my previous treatments was working after I caught one and realized it wasn't a fruit fly. If you pour grease or fats down the drain or into the pipes, they solidify and cause micro-clogging. Food particles stick to each other, accumulating over time. Drain flies develop from larvae that feed on the thin gelatinous buildup that lines pipes and traps. Believe it or not, Drano and his ilk aren't going to be able to get rid of this. Only enzymes have the ability to do so. br>br>I'd been trying to get rid of these bugs for six months, and because they have a 10-month life cycle, I'd spent a lot of time on it. They multiplied at a breakneck pace for 15 days. It had been a dreadful experience. They were making their way up the pipes from the basement to the sinks and tub on the second floor - They were all over the place, aaaaaargh! I looked up "enzyme cleaners" after seeing a mention of them on a plumbing website. I purchased my first bottle of Zep Drain Defense from a local home improvement store, followed the instructions, and that was the end of it. Within a week, they'd all vanished. Since then, I've done maintenance on it once a month. Drain flies are no longer a problem for me. These are enzymes, not harsh chemicals. br>br>By the way, these are enzymes, not harsh chemicals. It won't harm your pipes in any way.
Unfortunately, I've snaked a lot of drains only to have the problem return later because pipes DO accumulate crud over time. This does more than just unclog drains; it appears to "open the pipes," in my opinion. Not only has it become a regular part of my maintenance routine (I use the 8 oz. I've informed my coworkers about the treatment.
Edit- I've just received my most recent shipment - NO CAP! Only a couple of tablespoons leaked out of the top foil seal, but COME ON, Amazon! Who in their right mind would put this in a box without a frikkin cap? I had other items in the box that were thankfully undamaged.
An odor was coming from a bathroom drain on a regular basis. Despite the fact that the drain did not appear to be clogged, I used Draino each time with no success. My daughter brought her bottle of Zep Drain Defense over to show me. I used double the amount for two weeks straight and there was no odor at all. If this happens again, I'll switch to monthly billing. With this issue, I was at my wits' end. This is a product that I wholeheartedly recommend.
One evening, my laundry sink became completely clogged. I tried the standard first line of defense- THE PLUNGER is a term used to describe someone who is willing to take I didn't even come close to dropping the waterline. The water level in the sink had risen to the top and was overflowing. I made the decision to incorporate this cleaner into the mix. approximately one-quarter of a bottle and take care of it the next morning I checked the sink after two hours and found it to be empty. I had previously used this cleaner on slow sinks in my home, but this was really impressive; it's nice to find a product that actually works. Thank you very much, ZEP.
Since we moved into the house 10 years ago, we have noticed a smell in a half bathroom. It isn't unbearable, but it is noticeable. Over the years, I tried a few things, first blaming the toilet, then the sink, but nothing worked. br>br>I used this thing in the sink's drain and overflow holes for three nights in a row and it significantly reduced the stink; I couldn't smell it when I entered the bathroom anymore and had to get close to the sink's drain to smell it. I continued to use it for a few more days, and the odor has vanished. br>br>First, I let the hot water run for a few minutes, making sure to pour some into the overflow holes, then I poured an ounce of this stuff into both the drain and overflow holes and slowly added 16 oz of hot water, letting it sit overnight. br>br>From now on, I intend to use it for maintenance once a month.
We have an older home with fewer clean outs than a newer home, so after a clog, a plumber told me I needed to install a new main line, and a second opinion told me I only needed to clean the buildup out of my pipes, I decided to try this stuff. Everything drains as it should with just a little monthly maintenance. We've saved thousands of dollars in repairs thanks to an ounce of prevention. This will not clear a clog, but it will keep your pipes clean and reduce the likelihood of clogs. it's very likely to happen It is necessary for you to do so on a monthly basis. br>br>I've found that the bottle doesn't last nearly as long as they claim it should because we have to pour it down multiple drains to get the best results, but I still recommend this product!.
I think? This was purchased as a drain cleaner to be used as a preventative measure. My house was remodeled more than ten years ago, and I didn't want any pipes to clog up over the holidays, so I purchased this to remove fats/grease from the kitchen sink drain, bathroom drain, and other drains. and they continue to be today. I suppose it's for your own peace of mind? I didn't notice any significant changes in the rate of draining flow. br>br>This stuff has a nice scent to it! Ounce of wisdom- The handle has a measurement on it, so you can get an idea of how much to pour. Honestly, I believe Pine Sol does degreasing and disinfecting as well, so I'm not sure what the functional difference between this and Pine-Sol is, aside from the smell. Pine sol is also likely to be less expensive per fluid ounce. Everyone is free to do as they please.
The sink in the bathroom was clogged. When I used the product as directed, it did nothing; when I used it again, it made the sink run even slower. Plumber was called, and after spending $125, he rode it out, only to discover a small "wad" of hair. Hmmm. Wasn't this supposed to be a hair-removal product?.
