I have a magic pak that drains the condensation into a plastic/rubber hose, which then drains into a wall pipe. Is it possible to use these in conjunction with a hose?

I assume you mean a pvc pipe when you say "hose," as that is the most common drain system. Then "yes" is the answer to your question.

Is it safe to use these in a septic tank?

These are intended for use in condensate removal systems and HVAC drain pans. If you move the excess condensate into such an apparatus, it will be safe for septic systems as well.

Is there any way to eliminate odors? Is it effective in preventing the growth of mold?

Yes, the tablets assist in preventing the musty odor's source.

For a 5-ton unit, how many are required?

Every three to four months, take one tablet.

Don't keep your stuff in the garage! In the summer, the tabs melted due to the humidity in our garage

We liked how simple they were to use, but after a month in the garage, we discovered they needed to be stored inside. In addition, after we started using these, the grass below our condensate drain line died.
