Yes, but take care not to get fumes or flakes in your eyes! Also, be cautious if you have older or metal traps, as concentrated amounts of sodium hydroxide can eat through pipes that have thinned due to age. I've used it a lot, but I've also used it with a snake when I discovered a clog near a hardening formation. The sodium will help with the clog right now, but the snake will protect you in the long run.

I have been using this for a year for my pretzels and I normally use a 5% solution for my pretzels and I normally use a 5% solution for my pretzels and I normally So, if you slowly pour 1000 grams of water, 50 grams of lye beads will be produced.
It all comes down to the quality of the finished product. The purity of the food grade is assured. As a result, there are no additives in your soap batch that could cause it to fail. br>br>When they produce non-alcoholic beverages, they are referred to as food- Companies are permitted to add small amounts of anti-bacterial lye to food-grade lye. Without disclosing it on the label, caking agents or other ingredients are used. These chemicals may "dilute" the strength of your lye slightly, or they may cause an unwanted side reaction in your soap, causing it to seize or behave in an unexpected way, such as interfering with your colorants or scents. br>br>In addition, because the additive is not listed on the label, they can change it or stop using it at any time. This could result in unpredictably soapy results that you can't explain or avoid. br>br>Soap-making br>br> Making is difficult enough on its own. Don't make it any more difficult than it needs to be.

Selected User Reviews For Pure Lye Drain Cleaner / Opener, 2 lbs. Food Grade Sodium Hydroxide Micro Beads - HDPE container with resealable Child Resistant cap
I had a lot of misconceptions about lye, but after doing some research, I discovered that it is not only safe to use, but also safe to use in a septic tank. When my wife saw the bottle, she freaked out because she had her own lye fears. To begin, I'd like to point out that lye is an active ingredient in a wide range of drain cleaning products, with many of them combining it with other ingredients. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> My clogged bathroom sink drain is draining like there's a black hole beneath my sink four months later. br>For the past three years, my house has had a clogged/slow sink drain. I tried a lot of different products, but they all failed miserably - The gradual drain would always come back. I even hired a plumber, who told me that I'd have to replace the pipes after snaking the line and inspecting the vent stack for at least an hour. I did the following: br>br> I filled my sink with hot water and waited for it to drain. I poured about 1/4 cup into the drain and then poured about a cup of hot water over it while wearing goggles and gloves and running the vent fan. It bubbled and fizzed for a while before slowly draining. I remembered reading that you should use VERY hot water, so I tried it again with a cup or two of microwaved water. The added heat accelerated the chemical reactions this time, and it sounded as if a demon was trying to communicate from the drain's depths. It spit black garbage up and down the drain, making a variety of noises in the process. After giving it a few minutes to work, I flushed it with hot water. Simply put, my drain has never drained so quickly in my life. I fill the sink, then open the drain, and the water disappears like a black hole! This product has left an indelible impression on me, and I will be keeping it in my arsenal going forward. br>br>Be sure to follow all safety precautions and avoid using this on aluminum, galvanized, zinc, lead, or your toilet's wax ring. Put on your goggles and gloves because your sink will most likely spit up!.
I've only been making soap for a few months, but I can already tell that this is the best lye on the market. It's a breeze to work with. Essential Depot comes highly recommended by me.
This is a lie I've told many times before when making soap. I really needed some and was relieved to find it on Amazon Prime. br>It works great for making my homemade soap and the wedding favor soaps that I needed so quickly, but I don't like how it creates static electricity. When you try to transfer it from the bottle to your dish, and then from your dish to your water container, some of the particles fly all over the place. The little beads would somehow fall to the floor, and I'd have to stop what I was doing to vacuum it up before my dogs got into it. I've heard that using a dryer sheet can help with static electricity. I'm going to give it a shot and see how it goes. I sincerely hope so, because I really enjoy using this life in my soaps.
This is lye, by the way. I use it to make soap, and I prefer the quality of this product to that of the hardware store variety because it is guaranteed pure, and the very small pellets are uniform in size, which makes dissolving evenly easier. This product gives me a better feeling than the drain-clearing variety. I'm pleased with the finished product and would recommend it to any soapmaker.
Something in the house clogged a toilet, most likely a baby wipe; I tried dish soap and hot water first, but nothing worked. Nothing after the drano and the hot water. Soda of baking acetic acid Nothing but hot water. I gave each of these a few days to see how they worked. I had a long, slender snake that refused to go down the toilet. I poured a 32oz bottle of "guaranteed" sulfuric acid drain cleaner into it and waited 24 hours for it to work. br>I dumped half of this lye container down the toilet, let it sit for a few hours, and then flushed it with hot water. The toilet has finally been flushed. br>I'm not sure if it was just this lye, or if it was the lye after the sulfuric acid, so I can't say the lye did it on its own. Right now, all I can think about is how thankful I am that the toilet is flushing once more.
When I make cold process soaps, I use this NaOH for saponification. It's in small bead form, which is convenient because I weigh it for my soaping projects by mass! Depending on how much soap you want to make (if that's the reason you're doing this). ) It should last you a long time; I bought it in September, I believe (it's now May), and I've already made at least six batches of cold process soap with plenty left over. I suppose you could clean your drains, but don't! If you don't know what you're doing, NaOH can lead to chemical burns. When using this product, make sure to wear safety goggles and gloves. The public service announcement about science is now finished.
For a customer who needed to use up some of her supply of breastmilk soap, I used it in this batch. It came out beautifully, in my opinion! I'm about to place another order!.
What exactly is the purpose of purchasing food-grade lye? I'll tell you what happened. laugenbretzel is a German word that means "bread" in English. (Lye Pretzels in German) If you buy a freshly baked traditional pretzel from a bakery in Germany, there's a good chance it was dipped in a lye bath right before going into the oven. This alkaline solution raises the pH of the outside of the pretzel, speeding up the maillard reaction and resulting in the pretzel's lovely brown, crispy, slightly sweet skin. br>br>Since receiving this, I've baked at least 100 pretzels - as well as the ability to re- Because you'll be using the lye solution, this is probably more than you'll ever need, but it's a good price and will last you a lifetime.
