In my case, I buy only name brands for my meds. Those are the ones that work best. Some additives in off-brand items change its effectiveness despite having the same ingredients as the original products.

Since I began practicing medicinal treatment for common colds, which, for me, typically begins with a sore throat, I have developed my own method of fighting the common cold. I practice taking a liter of Gatorade every three hours on the first day only (don't ask me how it works, but it helps a lot). Before going to bed that very same night, I take 2 Nyquil liquid capsules before all the other nasty symptoms begin to develop. As soon as I wake up the next morning, I'll take 2 liquid capsules of Dayquil, then every 4 hours thereafter. In the past few years, I was able to avoid the harshest symptoms, such as chest and airways congestion, headache, etc. Though I am not a doctor, I think the Guaifenesin, an active ingredient found in this product, had something to do with it. The results I have experienced with other products containing this ingredient were very similar to those I have obtained with Vicks.
