It has been nearly two decades since I have dealt with venous ulcers, and I have tried many different products and treatments. When I used this product to treat open, draining venous ulcers, it was quite effective. As a result of its thick consistency and slightly granular appearance, the product is better described as a paste rather than a gel. When applying it to a wound bed, it has the advantage of staying in place and staying straight. As wound exudate (drainage) is absorbed into the product, a starch-like substance is produced Iodine is released slowly into the skin when a polymer matrix expands, helping it avoid infection as it absorbs liquid. Even though it is extremely rare, some people are allergic to iodine, so you might consider applying a little of the gel to an unaffected area of your skin before applying it to the open wound to ensure that you won't be adversely affected by it. This product is released in proportion to the amount of fluid it absorbs, so it has a much lower risk of toxicity than concentrated iodine solutions, however, you'll want to check for any allergies first. Every patient and body require a different treatment. In the new version, another was added - we removed the old one but added a new one. It is back to square one now. The red ointment had turned white, meaning its formula had broken down. I had to change the bandage daily when I could see through a hydrocolloid that it had exhausted. The treatment has a harsh effect on healthy tissue, so you must be precise in how you apply it. We are using this product at our hospital, where I am a wound specialist. Getting rid of dead tissue and speeding up the healing process are two great things about it. The product is good in dealing with wounds that are deep. Any ointments or gels should be used only under the supervision of a wound doctor. Your doctor will most likely recommend it, my wound doctor advised me to do so. In some cases, if your wound doc gives you a prescription, you can obtain this medicine through an insurance provider or a local medical supply store. Amazon is my preferred option because dealing with insurance companies or local medical supply companies is not pleasant for me. Medical supply companies take too long and charge insurance companies ridiculous amounts for items you can buy on your own for a cheaper price.
