This spice was used in a recipe from the Elder Scrolls Cookbook, and it smelled and tasted fantastic!.
These are quite pricey and not particularly appealing. Crushed peppercorn is the one spice in which I feel like I understand/enjoy the nuance from berry to berry (even if the recipes all taste the same at the end of the day). These would work well in dishes that incorporate both sweet and savory warming spices. There's a hint of "something else" (many reviews mention cardamom, which I agree with), but they're not as zingy as pepper. I usually crush them with a mortar and pestle, but I haven't noticed much flavor in my dishes. Perhaps if pepper is too "spicy" for you? "br>br>I'm sure they have a purpose, but they haven't done anything for me that a good pink/green peppercorn can't do.
This is a very high-quality product. A very fragrant "grain of paradise" grain in a large container of high quality. Mine goes into coffee, hot chocolate, and even mulling. Incredible taste.
In my opinion, these are just some delicate pepper corns. I'm not sure what I'm missing. I'd like my money back for the price, but I've been experimenting with the 'grains of paradise' in various applications. I was hoping to figure out what other spices I could use to complement them and bring out the grains' distinct characteristics. No luck.
It's a lovely spice; I used it in a stew, and the smell filled my house. My meal has so much depth thanks to the gradual increase in spice intensity.
There are no aromas, flavors, or reasons to buy this product again. Because this spice is so difficult to come by, I was excited to "See, Smell, and Taste" this high-quality product, but it disappointed me greatly. This batch should have been made more recently.
I didn't care for the amount of pepper, but my friend did, so I gave it to her.
