Questions & Answers

"Large chunks of real beef," according to the description. Crustand hamberger like and tvp, according to some reviewers. What's the difference?

The claim of "large chunks of beef" used to be true, but the last batch of 12 cans I purchased recently contains no meat except for 2 or 3 unidentifiable lumps of something that looked like ground flesh of some animal and tvp. There is nothing in these cans except a thick brown broth/gravy/sauce and a lot of potatoes. I have the impression that the Dinty Moore labels have been taken over. and stuffed them into these slop cans. Dinty Moore, surely, understands!

Why is it taking 1–2 months to receive this item?

It took me about a week and a half to complete mine.

How much salt is in this dish?

15 oz. in a 15 oz. There are 990mg of salt in one cup of Dinty Moore® Beef Stew from a can.

I've already placed my order. When do the cans expire?

Years. When you can push the top into a canned good, you know it's bad. There should be little give when pressing on the top, and the cans may have a date stamped on them.

Stew beef is now hamburger, not beef chunks, and TVP is used instead of beef chunks
3/5

This beef stew was a complete letdown. This was something my mother would buy and feed to my sister and me. Mom was a working mother who had a lot on her plate. Mom would buy it in large cans and serve it to us for dinner with some nice dinner rolls or hearty bread and a green salad back then. It was always a nice dinner, especially in the fall or winter. Years later, as a busy working mom, I would occasionally feed it to my family in the same way. I was aware that it was high in salt, but I figured it would be a better dinner option for them than bringing dinner home from a fast food restaurant. I'll admit that I haven't bought this product in a long time, preferring to make my own beef stew instead. I was on Amazon looking for something else when I came across this, and it brought back memories. I thought to myself, "Wouldn't it be nice to have a bowl of that beef stew?" Now that the weather has turned cooler, it would be a great thing to have on hand. I had no idea they'd make such a drastic change to the ingredients. What used to be nice cubes of actual beef, like you'd use in home-made beef stew, would be replaced with mushy hamburger balls mixed with TVP. When TVP is added to chili, I don't mind because the texture is fine and it works. I don't mind textured vegetable protein; I use it in my meatloaf and mix it with hamburger to make meatballs for spaghetti and meatballs. But when you're expecting the beef stew you've had for a long time to still contain chunks of actual beef rather than lumpy meatballs made from hamburger and TVP, it's a real letdown. I ordered a dozen cans. I'm thinking of donating the 11 cans that are still in my pantry to a local food bank, but I think I should put a warning Post-It note on each one explaining that the beef is hamburger and TVP rather than beef cubes. If I had read the reviews, I would have noticed that the beef is no longer chunks of beef, and if I had zoomed in on the picture on the can's screen, I would have noticed that the meat looks more like meatballs than chunks of beef as you would expect in beef stew. Unfortunately, neither of these things were accomplished by me. The fact that a product has changed is clearly not Amazon's fault. Dinty Moore has my utmost respect for drastically altering their product and turning what was once a good product into something truly terrible. Although the flavor is still present, the meat is revolting. In their BEEF stew, no one expects soft hamburger/TVP balls. If you're thinking about ordering this because you remember how good Dinty Moore beef stew was, don't.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE THE PANDEMIC DEMAND To be honest, this stew does not appeal to me
4/5

My favorite stew is the one I make at home, but my brother enjoys it a lot. If none of mine is left in the freezer, he can have some whenever he wants- This occurs on a regular basis. br> I'm not even going to argue with him about eating it because it's relatively healthy, made with fresh potatoes and carrots and no preservatives. It's one way of persuading him to consume more vegetables. Of course, without the "extra" ingredients, my version is superior- Simply lean grass-fed beef and a variety of fresh organic vegetables and potatoes, with or without lean grass-fed beef. The 20 oz can is a good size for a couple of meals or for sharing. I buy as much of this stew as I'm allowed for a few local food banks on a regular basis, trying to do my part and do it as nutritiously as possible for self-sufficiency. That said, I don't think I'm alone in thinking that prices have gone up and availability has decreased since the pandemic wreaked havoc and hardship on so many people. Those who price gouge should be ashamed! br>br> You should put yourself in the shoes of the jobless for a mile. br>If you go hungry and rely on the goodwill of others during thisbr>exceptional time, you might be more sensitive to fair pricing. making it possible to assist in the feeding of as many people as possiblebr> HEY! br>br>BUT WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, DINTY MOORE is back! If you're reading this, it's because you're interested in learning more about the subject Please increase your manufacturing capacity. All too often, either the quantity we're allowed to buy is restricted or it's completely sold out. Because you have jobs and the ability to buy food, whereas millions of other Americans do not due to no fault of their own, alleviating this situation will force the greedy to compete on price. br>How far do you think 4, 8, or 12 cans of food will go in a food bank that feeds hundreds of families each week? br>br>All right, let's get this party started. So, in order to spite my face, I've cut off my own nose by giving Dirty Moore Stew a positive review. Those buying it for themselves, on the other hand, should consider those who are unemployed or have limited resources. br>You should only purchase what you truly require right now, rather than stockpiling so that you can give to others. Thank you for taking the time to read this. br> br>br>PS: If you're looking for a unique way to express yourself, try using the words "cre Because of the rising price and lack of availability, I gave it four stars.

With a lot of solid food, it tastes great
4/5

Back in the 1960s, I used to bring Dinty Moore beef stew camping. Because of the pandemic, I've recently resumed purchasing it. It still has the same appearance and flavor as it did fifty years ago! To give it a little more substance, I sometimes combine it with cooked white rice or canned corn. It's a decent piece of work.

After eating, I still have solid poops, which is good in my book
5/5

This is something I've dealt with on numerous occasions. I trust this brand, and I've tried others that tasted similar or worse, but never better or more consistent. In any case, all canned/pouch stews make me think of MRES. The meat is real, but it's ground coarsely and formed into little pretend steak chunks; don't get me wrong, it's not rubbery. They have a slight resemblance to small meatballs, but they aren't the same. More asteroid-shaped than symmetrical. However, it is still meat, and it goes well with white bread and butter in my opinion. During a period of hardship, I gained weight by eating only these foods for a few months. It is recommended, however, that you exercise to burn off all of the fat in these and drink a lot of water to counteract the salt. I wouldn't give these to someone who is sedentary or has diabetes or heart disease on a regular basis. The salt is excessive, but that is true of everything in this category at this price point.

I've got a lot of dented cans in my collection
3/5

This makes me angry.   I gave it one star because the majority of the cans were dented, which I wasn't happy about. The product is good, but I'm wary of dented cans, which isn't good.

Dinty Moore, more Dinty Moore, more Dinty Moore, more Dinty Moore, more Din It's the same canned stew I used to eat as a kid
4/5

Probably not the healthiest option, but it goes down smoothly and warms the belly when you need to eat but can't go shopping or stand over the stove all night.
