In Hawaii ten years ago, I was experimenting with various canned goods in preparation for an ocean crossing. Dinty Moore looked exactly the same in 1952 as he did then. Yr 2021: So, what went down? This isn't even close to being acceptable. Is it possible to get textured vegetable protein? This isn't something I'd keep on hand in the event of a disaster. And, more importantly, where is the BEEF? WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH THOSE LITTLE CRUMBLES OF GRO NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO PS: In response to the following comment about dog food: When I microwaved this, my dog jumped up in my face and said, "Hey, that's MINE!".
Beef stew with Dinty Moore brings back a lot of memories for me. Dinty Moore beef stew over rice was a meal time savior in our family when we were poor and had two working parents. I just heat it up now and serve it with biscuits, saltines, or sourdough bread and a tall glass of milk to save time. It's straightforward and satisfying, as well as warm and sentimental.
This stew is one of my favorites. BUT; This isn't for you if you've been on a low-salt diet.
I'm not a fan of canned foods in general, but this stuff is disgusting. It's not chunk meat, but some sort of pressed gob, and the sauce is awful.
I was under the impression that I was purchasing BEEF STEW. See? BEEF. It's right there in the name of the company. POTATO STEW WITH BEEF FLAVORS should be the name of the dish. Get this for your vegan friends; they won't be able to roll their eyes at something they can't back up. 2 or 3 fatty scant chunks of meat, plus some shredded bits It was a huge let down.
stew from Dinty Moore It has a great flavor. My favorite way to eat it is with saltiness or Ritz crackers, or over rice or egg noodles. I only bought it once in my life when there was very little sauce left, but that was the only time. I'm not sure if it was a bad batch, but that didn't stop me from buying more. I've been eating this for as long as I can remember, but it's quite pricey. They could reduce the price to perhaps two dollars instead of three. Anyway, I'll buy it regardless, but it'll be a financial strain.
In terms of flavor, Dinty's is a close second. The carrots and potatoes are both delicious. The meat isn't quite as good as mine, but that's to be expected from a can. The 20oz size is plenty for me and makes a quick and inexpensive microwave meal whether I'm at home or in a remote motel.
However, on days when time, energy, or ingredient availability are constraints, Dinty Moore comes to the rescue with this acceptable substitute. I season it with a few spices to suit my tastes, but there have been times when pulling a can of Dinty Moore's beef stew from the shelf was a welcome relief.
