They had very little sweetness to them, in my opinion. In essence, a sour midget pickle. Cornichons of this caliber are the best I've come across. a jar serving apparatus that allows you to lift the pickles to the top of the jar without having to dig through the brine to get them. It's brilliant!.
Everything is in place. Perfect. Not too sweet, not too dill, just like you'd get in a fine restaurant. I adore the little basket on the inside that allows you to lift them out without using a fork! Thank you as well for keeping my husband's fingers out of the jar!.
They are without a doubt the best I've ever tasted. New additions to my collection.
However, the price isn't so low. These cornichons are one of my favorites. These pickles are a secret ingredient in many of my recipes, and I eat them with sandwiches and picnic-style salads. I used to buy cornichons at Trader Joe's because they're much cheaper there, but when I moved back to a small town where imported goods like these are extremely hard to come by, I turned to the internet. I was relieved to discover the Maille brand, as it tastes more like the cornichons I used to purchase in France. I found them on Amazon and directly on the Maille website. When broken down to jar-by-jar pricing (just under $10/jar including shipping), both websites offered these cornichons for nearly the same price. I was initially put off by the price (Trader Joe's sells cornichobs for under $3 per jar), but this is one of those products that I really enjoy. As a result, I eventually paid the high price and indulged. I'm glad I did, but I wish Amazon would sell this product at a lower price; I'll keep paying until I find a reason (other than little French pickles) to drive to the "big city" and stock up at my nearest Trader Joe's.
I've bought these cornichons twice now, and they're quite tasty. I've had better, but they're always much more expensive; this time, I ordered them on Amazon because they were a little less expensive than at my local grocery stores. They have a nice tangy flavor to them that isn't too strong. They go well with the charcuterie boards I make for parties. They pair well with cured meats and are always gone by the end of the evening.
Although the taste is excellent, I will be unable to purchase this item again. Since my purchase, I've noticed that the price hasn't dropped below $10. I paid less than $5 for the item. There's a small plastic thing inside that helps you get the pickles out without reaching down the jar with your hands. This plastic assistant is also visible in the stock photo.
They were the sourest, saltiest, most delicious little morsels I'd ever tasted. Consider a traditional dill pickle and magnify the flavor three times. It slams you in the face with uncontrollable facial spasms. Yum! These, on the other hand, aren't quite as powerful. br>br> I tried three different brands of cornichons in my quest to find the perfect sour punch flavor, and these were one of them. Trois Petits Cochons is the most powerful flavor (and my personal favorite). The Maille are still tasty, but not quite as strong as a Vlasic or Nathan's (my favorite full-size dill). The Maille is a little sweeter as well. br>br>I would recommend these as cornichons for anyone who prefers a milder flavor profile or wants a safe option when entertaining guests.
