French Tarragon is the only option if you want to use it as a flavoring herb in your cooking. Russian Tarragon is a much more robust cultivar that can be started from seed. In comparison to French (which can only be propagated from cuttings and cannot be grown from seed), it has a bland flavor. When I planted Russian Tarragon seeds in my herb garden nearly 50 years ago, I discovered this. You don't want to waste a beautiful piece of fish by seasoning it with Russian Tarragon. It makes a mild tea and makes a nice landscaping bush.

This tarragon is unlike anything I've ever had before. It has pieces of stem and other parts that have no taste, and it is so bland that I have to use a lot more to get a semblance of flavor. It is very weak, or perhaps it sat around too long, but I will not buy this one again.
