Sumac is the dried berry of the sumac plant, and it is the only ingredient. It has a mild lemon flavor with paprika undertones.br>I use it on scrambled eggs and anything that calls for lemon, such as shrimp scampi, chicken dishes, and vegetables. Because it isn't spicy, you can use it on anything! I hope this has been of assistance.
The flavor is sour and lemony. It works well as a salt replacement. When added to rice or marinating meat (add buttermilk as a meat tenderizer, mmmm), it has a pleasant flavor.
Sumac isn't organic, so don't expect it to be. While we make every effort to source organic spices, some of the more uncommon spices are extremely difficult to locate with certification.
Mine was in the pantry when I went to get it. It doesn't say much about the spice other than what it can be used for.

If you're a fan of the Middle Eastern fattoush salad, This is the spice you need to make it at home if you're eating at an oriental restaurant. It is possible that you will have to fry your own pita bread chips, but this is a simple process. Sumac was unfamiliar to me until I read The Acid Watcher Diet. Because I have a number of acid-related health issues, I've had to eliminate lemon juice from my diet. I used to make lemon chicken on a regular basis, assuming I'd be stuck eating bland food for the rest of my life. Sumac can be substituted for lemon juice in recipes, according to Dr. Aviv's book, so I tried it in my regular recipe: put chicken in a pan, add a sprinkle of Sumac, salt, pepper, and any other seasonings you want, such as rosemary, sage, thyme, or poultry seasoning.
