Questions & Answers
On the label, there is no indication of the amount or percentage. The following are the ingredients: Sumac, salt; however, I tasted it before putting it in a dish and it didn't taste "salty," so it's probably more of a flavor enhancer. This tasted exactly like the food I used to eat in the Middle East. HTH!

It has a pleasant odor and appears to be in good condition. I haven't tried it yet, but I've heard great things about their other products. The stackable tins are great, and the see-through lid allows you to see the amount of food inside.
The combination of sour cream and salt is a delicious combination. I wanted plain sumac. br>br>Update 12/24/14: I opened it today, and it was a huge letdown. There was no smell at all, not even a smidgeon. br>I'm not sure how old this is, but I had a canister that I bought several years ago in another city. The last bit used had a distinct odor to it. It was also pitch black, but now it's a reddish hue. I'm just going to throw this away, what a waste.
I can't compare this brand of Sumac to others, but I really like it, so there's that. br>I've purchased a number of spices from this company and have thoroughly enjoyed them all. Be prepared to be a long-term customer!.
I was hungry for more after that. This tin is very nice and quite large in comparison to the other items I purchased previously. br>I now use it in a variety of ways.
I frequently purchase Middle Eastern cuisine from local restaurants and always ask for a small amount of sumac to take home with me. It's a delicious spice with a tangy, lemon-like flavor. When I got this 2, I was a bit disappointed. Tin can with a capacity of 5 oz. The sumac tasted bad, despite the fact that it was delivered quickly and in a nice package. It was slightly bitter and smelled damp, so I'm not sure how long this can had been sitting around or if it was just my package that was spoiled, or if it was the salt and storage that made it taste bad. I don't think I'll be able to return it, so I'll just throw it away. I'm going to try buying from a different brand to see if the quality is any better.
Notes of citrus. Gives meats, dressings, and other dishes that extra kick!.
I sprinkle this on top of hummus, close my eyes, and imagine myself in Tel Aviv, Fresh!.
I found "green za'atar" at a local health food store, which was a mixture of fluffy ground thyme, salt, and a minimum of whole sesame seeds. But I wanted a more complex za'atar, so I started with what I had on hand and added more toasted and ground sesame seeds, ground fennel, cinnamon, a small amount of powdered sage, pounded cardamom seed, and this ground sumac (using a mortar and pestle). Only the cardamom seed proved to be a challenge to work with. (In that case, I believe a pepper grinder would be ideal. ) ) I skipped the cumin, which some people might add, because I already have it in my spice cabinet. My za'atar mixture is now perfect for me. br>br>This ground sumac is packaged in a metal tin with a clear plastic top to prevent friction. fit lid. The tin I received appears to be in perfect condition, which is crucial. It is kept in the refrigerator. It has a pleasant lemon flavor. However, there is one distinction: - It's less acidic and more complex. I believe this is the key to making authentic za'atar.
