I ordered it because it was advertised as organic, and the image on the listing depicts a USDA Organic logo on the package. There is no USDA Organic certification or any local/state Organic certification listed on this one.
This is the first time I've ever written a review to warn others away from a product, but since I didn't realize until I got to THE BOTTOM OF THE BAG, I'd like to spare others the pain I went through. Yes, this fenugreek has a pleasant aroma and flavor. Yes, it's a little stringy, but I chalked it up to it being a little wild and unpolished or something. I began to notice the occasional "Pebble" intruder in a bite of soup near the end of the bag. I'm willing to put it aside for the time being. When it comes to pre-school, however, When I returned for the bowl after measuring all of the dry herbs for my soup, I discovered a swarm of tiny bugs crawling up the sides. I scooped some more into a white bowl to make sure it was bugs, and there were plenty. Sure, they'll probably perish in the soup, but do yourself a favor and avoid this brand; it's not good, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who's had this experience. There are many good brands out there that ensure a high-quality product, but this is not one of them.
I've never bought or cooked with fenugreek leaves before, so I don't know what to compare it to, but as a professional chef, the quality of this product appears to be a little gnarly. First and foremost, the leaves do not appear to be completely dry, which makes me concerned that they will mold, and also prevents me from crumbling the leaves into a dish as I would with dry oregano or thyme. Second, there are a lot of stems and sticks, not just leaves. I didn't want people to have to fish stringy stems out of their mouths while eating my butter chicken, so I painstakingly removed the stems and blended the leaves in my spice grinder before adding them. If I were you, I'd skip this product in favor of a different brand.
I purchased this item because it is USDA certified organic, according to the label. The product I received, however, lacks USDA certification and is not returnable.
Purchasing is not recommended. It claims to be organic in advertising on the website, which is the same as labeling. There is no indication that the product is organic on the label. Misbranding is a violation of the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act when something is advertised as organic when it is not. Fennel leaves are about $2 per pound when purchased organically. For what you get, this is way too expensive. There is no option for a refund. This product must not be used.
This package consists primarily of stems with a few leaves, and the overall quality is poor. These are advertised as being suitable for cooking, but they are not. After only using them in one dish, I threw them out.
