I'm hesitant to use them because I'm afraid of what might happen if I do They've all been opened, and they're refusing to return them.
The item arrived with the lids removed and both spice bottles mixed together in a bag. I would not recommend this product! If I could, I'd give it a zero! I won't be able to return because the seller won't let me.
Don't throw your money away. After living in Louisiana for several years and being a reasonably capable Cajun cook, I can say without reservation that this product is a waste of money. For starters, the main ingredient is salt, and there is way too much salt in it. It only has four ingredients: salt, black pepper, red pepper, and garlic. It'll only set you back around $3. In the can, there are 00 dollars worth of ingredients. br>br>Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of Paul Prudhom's book "Fork in the Road," check out his seasoning mixes, and you'll be well on your way to culinary bliss. Last but not least, Paul suggests that you add spices throughout the cooking process. It adds a subtle but well-known "roundness" to the flavors you'll enjoy.
I didn't know what to expect, but a coworker gave me some insight. This was brought into work by a coworker, and wow, what a pleasant surprise; the flavor was delicious and had a great kick to it. This is what I use these days for everything. I am addicted to adding salt to my food, and this is a great alternative with a lot less sodium. Don't be fooled, though; this has a real kick if you aren't a big fan of spice, which I am, so this is perfect. The HOT one, as expected, adds heat but, in my opinion, slightly reduces flavor, making it ideal for foods where you don't want to change the flavor but just add a kick. It's my go-to for my wife's chilli, which has great flavor but no heat (so the kids can eat it), so this is the ideal complement. I've been able to drastically reduce my raw salt shaker usage thanks to this and crushed red pepper, so this is a healthier option for me.
The "regular" version is fantastic. Great flavor with a hint of heat. "Hot" is the word. It is, after all, extremely hot. Even my husband, who enjoys spicy foods, thinks it's scorching. So there you have it - H- is short for "hot. " The flavors, on the other hand, are delicious!.
This was suggested to us by a Louisiana friend of my husband's. I went to five different grocery stores in search of it, and everyone looked at me as if I was a troll because of the name! It was quite amusing, especially considering that it is a product. br>br>Since discovering it on Amazon, we've been using it on almost everything we cook. It reminds me of a spicy seasoning salt. It's a fantastic match for chicken. We don't have access to crawfish where we live now, but if we did, this would be an excellent seasoning to use. There are several types, each with a different level of spiciness. br>br> A different spice mixture is represented by each color. The red label is far more enticing than the yellow.
All of the Slap Ya Mama Cajun Seasonings (including the "WHO DAT?") have now been tried. ", which is simply a packaged version of the "Original" by the New Orleans Saints). They're all genuine and one of a kind. The original and the hot are exactly what they claim to be, with the "hot" simply being a hotter version of the original. The flavors are similar, and the ingredients are the same, but the "hot" version has a lot more cayenne. The original has a rich, bright flavor that isn't overpowering, and I use it on everything. I sprinkled a pinch on top of some bruschetta last night, and it added just the right amount of glitz. br>br>The White Pepper version, which is not included in this set, is the most unique, and I'd highly recommend you try it as well, if not first; it's my favorite overall, and I find it to be the most authentic when compared to the food my aunt CiCi prepares for me when I visit her in New Iberia (which is cajun country, but not "Swamp People"); )br>br>I use all three of these in my cooking all of the time because they're so versatile (the "hot" being the most limited unless you're doing spicy-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-hot foods that are hot). A little goes a long way in a world of foods, and it adds a subtle nuance: Steaks, chicken, fish, hot dogs, hamburgers, and macaroni and cheese Cheese, baked potatoes, soups, and even salads are all good options. I even put a little of the original on my Thanksgiving turkey, and it brightens it up without anyone noticing!.
Even for someone like me, the yellow pack of this brand was far too salty. For a nice snack, I've been dipping fresh bread (French) in olive oil with Cajun seasoning. Many other brands of Cajun seasoning will do the trick. More than two dippings in my olive oil with the yellow Slap ya Mama were too much for me - I was on the verge of vomiting. When I tried it on eggs, it was a little too salty. The amount of salt was incredible and unacceptably high. It was really bad. I had to shake the bottle really hard to distribute it and make sure nothing else was at work. The red pack was also far too spicy, causing the Cajun flavors to be overpowered. I would not recommend this product and wish I could return it (returns are not permitted). Returning to the McCormick Culinary Bayou Cajun after tossing and turning.
