Product Description

Questions & Answers

Is it made with high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) or any other type of corn syrup?

There is no mention of any other ingredients; "Only tamarind extract" is written on the package. Nothing else came up in a web search. This product is excellent, and I will be ordering more in the near future. www. Information and recipes can be found at tamarindpaste.org.

When kept in the refrigerator, how long would this product last? Thank you very much! ?

I honestly have no idea how long Tamarind paste lasts because I usually use it up in less than 6 months. I live in Colorado and keep it on the shelf with molasses, which has a similar consistency, and it seems to be fine; a quick Google search says it has an indefinite shelf life, but I'm guessing that's in a cool, dry, and dark place. br>Once you've tried Tamicon Tamarind paste, you'll probably only need another because it can be used in so many different ways. Enjoy

Is there anything that can be used in place of tamarind paste?

Tamarind paste is what it's made of.

Pad Thai's Best Kept Secret Pad Thai's distinctive flavor comes from the use of tamarind
5/5

If you're making Pad Thai at home, be sure to read the instructions carefully. When you don't need much, some of them will request a large amount of Tamarind concentrate paste. br>br>One of the realities of modern life is that many people copy other people's content, including recipes, without actually preparing them. What if one of the recipes isn't up to snuff? It will be copied and spread by others. Duplicates of a bad recipe will spread like wildfire all over the world. br>br>I'm telling you this because I tried two Shrimp Pad Thai recipes and they both failed miserably. There was an excessive amount of Tamarind concentrate requested. Some websites recommended one or two tablespoons, while others recommended 1/4 to 1/3 cup (which didn't sound right to me at the time). My first batch of Pad Thai was too flavorful and had to be discarded. My second batch, which I made shortly after, was nearly ruined as well, because I (instinctively) only used half the amount of Pad Thai sauce recommended for the noodles. You could blame the cook, but these were just really bad recipes from people who most likely copied and pasted content. br>br>This bottle contains a lot of tamarind (likely for restaurant use), and I'd recommend a 4 oz or smaller size because you don't need that much. This tamarind concentrate is fantastic; however, you must use it in conjunction with a good recipe. It is highly recommended. br>br>* My recipe has been updated, and the difficulty level has been increased to medium. ***BENJAMIN BANNISTER'S PAD THAI RECIPE FOR TWO **

TAMARIND PASTE IS NOT WHAT IT SEEMS TO BE! Although it is labeled as tamarind paste, it is not - Tamarind concentrate is what it's all about
3/5

I didn't realize it until the jar was open and the contents were liquid. It ruined the Christmas tamarind balls I was attempting to make. I'm very disappointed with this product; please change the description to "concentrate" rather than "paste" so that other customers don't make the same mistake I did.

Although the item received was smaller than the description, it was of good quality
4/5

The product description says it's a 16-ounce unit, but the one I got is only 14 ounces. It's also called "Tamarind Paste," but I got "Tamarind Concentrate," which isn't the same. Because I don't have another 48 hours to wait for a replacement, I'll figure out a way to make it work. The product itself could be fine, and I'll update this review once I've had a chance to try it out for a few days. br>br>NEW ADDITIONAL INFORMATION - 7/06/17 Despite the label indicating 14 ounces rather than the described 16 ounces and the description being "Tamarind Concentrate" rather than "Tamarind Paste," the product quality, taste, and texture worked out beautifully in my Jamaican style Jerk Chicken recipe. I entertained well over 30 guests over the 4th of July holiday and received compliments from nearly every single guest without a single critique. It was even "better than last year," according to one participant.

Tamarind Paste is not what you're looking for! Very dissatisfied - I placed an order for tamarind paste
3/5

That was the brand name of the product. I got tamarind concentrate, which isn't what I was looking for. I've experimented with using tamarind concentrate in Thai cooking and failed miserably. I threw out my tamarind concentrate and went out to buy what I thought was tamarind paste, only to be disappointed. Keep your focus! And there's no way I can get it back to you. br>br>Cooks, take note - You will not receive paste; instead, you will receive concentrate.

The jar is leaking and the lid is not closing properly
3/5

It's time to move to a new container. Tamarind paste is difficult to remove from clothing and even garden surfaces. The jar design is poor, and the lid does not cinch down tightly, as other reviewers have pointed out. Because it's a paste, it's difficult to transfer to another jar. br>It's kind of stupid to use a jar like this for such a messy ingredient, but I'm guessing the company couldn't get their hands on appropriate jars as a result of the Covid pandemic. br>It does, however, taste good.

I received a bottle that was almost two years old (by days)
3/5

I received a bottle that was nearly (by days) two years past its three-year shelf life, and I just noticed that another reviewer had received an old bottle as well. I was told by the distributor that "one year (left) is a long time," but I haven't opened the bottle yet, so I don't know how good the product is. Perhaps Amazon should make it mandatory for food distributors (whether for people or pets) to include expiration dates with their ads.

This is fantastic! Fresh produce is not always available to me
5/5

This is fantastic! Because I don't always have access to fresh tamarind or the time to experiment with it when I do, this "Tamicom Tamarind Paste" comes in handy. br>Sure, this is a concentrate, not fresh, so there will be a flavor difference (which can vary depending on which region your fresh comes from), but for marinades, salad dressings, smoothies, and a variety of other applications, this works great. br>My jar arrived early, was still well sealed (which is a good sign for someone living at a high altitude), and the product was exactly as described. br>The jar says paste, but my version was more like thick real molasses. br>This is a product that I would and have recommended to others. br>This wonderful sweet and sour ingredient has a plethora of recipes available, so get some and try them out.

Overall, I'm disappointed because this isn't a paste
3/5

This is a concentrate liquid with a medium viscosity, rather than a paste. br>br>I'm not sure if this is Tamarind or not! This tastes nothing like tamarind, but rather like pomegranate concentrate, which I am very familiar with. br>br>Also, the cap is completely useless, as it comes right off without needing to be unscrewed.
