Questions & Answers
There is no allergen warning on my bag that I can see. They don't say whether they're gluten-free or if they're made in a facility that handles other allergens. You might want to look at their website for more information.
I've tried soaking and cooking without soaking, and the results are the same in both cases. They are, in fact, slightly firmer than non- I used to buy organic split peas from the supermarket.
I couldn't find anything on the package, but there is a website called FoodToLive.com where you might be able to learn more. I'm 75 years old and I think the split peas are the best I've ever had.
I bought mine in March 2018 and the small amount that remains appears to be in good condition.

I've had it with these peas, and I've had it with them. They were great the first time I bought them, but the last two times I bought them, they were uncookable. No matter how long I soaked or cooked them, they were crunchy. I cooked them until they were soft the last time I did it. They cooked down to a red brown muck but remained crunchy after 14 hours on low heat and 12 hours of cooking. These should only be used as animal feed, but I doubt cows would eat them. If you're looking for plant-based plastic or organic ball bearings, look elsewhere; if you're looking for soup, look elsewhere.
I'm not sure how these peas were processed, but there's something off about them. Regardless of how we cook them, they produce a distinct flavor. I've tried cooking them in a variety of ways, all of which resulted in entire batches being thrown out; I'm not sure what the flavor is, but it's nothing a pea (dried or not) has ever tasted like, and it's certainly nothing a pea (dried or not) should ever taste like.
I was extremely dissatisfied with the product and will not purchase it again. They never became soft, even though I presoaked them the night before and cooked them for over 6 hours. They were most likely stale to begin with, and I will not purchase this brand again. They appeared to be of a pale color and the bag contained a large number of discolored peas. I've cooked split peas before, so I knew it was a bad bag.
The bag had a hole in it, and when I removed it from the delivery box, split peas spilled all over the place. I'll be sweeping those suckers up, along with the Christmas tree needles, for the rest of my life. I don't want to send it back, but a replacement would be nice; however, neither of these options are viable. You'd be better off going with a different vendor.
After 5 hours of cooking, the split peas had not broken down. I would not recommend this product.
I soaked these split peas for 24 hours before cooking them for 5 minutes. They took 6 hours to soften, but they never did. I was so looking forward to a hearty bowl of soup when I received this product.
Despite treating the peas as I would any other split pea in soup preparation, I was unable to get them to soften.
So watch where you buy this product because the split peas are from Canada, so it's probably the best you can get.
