In short, yes. They are two different things. There is a distinct flavor to this and it adds a good deal of flavor to the food. This rice wine has less salt than "rice wine" (not rice cooking wine). This brand has one teaspoon of salt. The alcohol is 15% and there is 5% salt. In comparison with Shaoxing rice wine, Mirin is also a rice cooking wine. It has a sweet flavor, unlike Shaoxing rice wine.

We were so glad to finally get hold of this "authentic" shaoxing after years of not being able to find it anywhere. While some varieties contain enough salt to allow them to be sold despite the restrictions on alcoholic beverages, this variety contains a large amount of salt. No matter what you make with this, just leave out the salt and you'll be fine. When you smell and taste the smell and taste of this, it is quite similar to lighter sherry, although it contains a lot of salt. If possible, use sherry instead if you can't, then go with this.
