Whole jalapeno peppers are difficult to come by

After draining and rinsing them, I replaced the liquid with kosher dill pickle juice and refrigerated them for a few days.

The label on this case of 11 oz cans stated that they were pickled. They were brittle and abrasive to the touch. They're not up to par.
