Working from home, I stopped doing my Sunday meal prep for the week's lunches in favor of something low-stress and quick to throw together whenever I was hungry, so I began making a lot of sandwiches. Prior to that, I wasn't a huge fan of daiya slices, but with everything going on, I was just glad to buy whatever I could find, and these happened to be it. Cold sandwiches have never appealed to me since becoming vegan. If I wanted to use vegan cheese, I usually melted it on a veggie burger or a pizza. Despite their claims of melting and stretching, Daiya slices just didn't seem to work for me melted on things, but now that I'm making cold sandwiches? These are the IT people. There is literally no other sliced cheese I enjoy as much on cold sandwiches as these; the provolone is perfect, the Swiss is decent; I don't care for the cheddar, but I've never cared for real cheddar, and I did enjoy provolone, so take that as you will. I like violife and chao and miyoko's kitchen (they have the best mozzarella block I've tried), and even Whole Foods brand mozzarella is good for melting on something hot, but I won't make a cold sandwich if I'm out of these. They're also very thick, so one slice will cover the entire sandwich, which is good because these can be expensive, but honestly, I don't think there's anything better for a cold sandwich.
delicous. I loved chao cheese but couldn't eat it because of the soy - I was heartbroken because I didn't think I'd be able to find someone to replace her. I'm not sure if this is a new offering (Daiya seems to be releasing a lot of new products!). ) but I gave it my best shot, expecting it to fall flat- and I'm delighted to report that it's tasty. I've yet to try it in a grilled cheese sandwich - I just eat a plain slice by itself, and it's quite tasty. Will buy again, and will ask Amazon Fresh to carry Daiya cheddar at a reasonable price point, which I haven't tried yet.
I've tried a few Daiya "cheeses," but none of them appeal to me. This was the worst; I usually put up with a package because I despise wasting food, but I had to throw this one out. These days, there are a plethora of excellent dairy-free cheese companies and options. You are entitled to a higher standard.
I really like the flavor of this cheese, but it has crumbled twice in the last few weeks when I touched it in the package. It has been IMPOSSIBLE to remove as a slice, which could be due to poor storage prior to delivery. freezing? I will not be purchasing it on a weekly basis until this issue is addressed and resolved. ☹.
Admit it: I'm new to the whole plant-based eating thing. So, having tried it on my black bean burger, I can say that I'm not a fan of this product. It was horrible, so I made sure to melt it first. I had a feeling it wouldn't taste like actual cheese. It didn't taste like chemicals, which I wasn't expecting. Yuck.
Unwashed feet and coconut oil are the scents that come to mind. It has a strange sweetness to it. It definitely melts like cheese, so if you mask the flavor, you can fool yourself into thinking it's cheese. Overall, it's pretty revolting. If I were you, I would not buy.
It's fantastic on tuna, and I use it all the time. Avocado melt has a lot of flavor and melts nicely.
This cheese satisfied my cravings despite having a long list of allergies, which included soy and gluten. I used it both as is and as a toast for my homemade bread with no issues.
