So, when I first started looking into the Wii U, I had no idea what I was getting myself into until I came across this $234 bundle. I began comparing and concluded that the only difference between these and the deluxe was the storage capacity of 8 GB vs. 32 GB for the deluxe. I also read that it could be expanded with an SD card, which is relatively inexpensive, so I wasn't concerned about memory. According to reports, purchasing the deluxe version earns you Wii U club points, which are apparently worth some money, but not nearly enough for me. After that, there are the games that come with the package. My kids were really excited about Skylanders, and since Mario 3D is now available for the Wii U, I figured I could get this bundle along with Mario 3D and save money over the deluxe version with the old Mario Game. The Luigi U game is included in the Deluxe, but it can be purchased for $20 elsewhere. So, in the end, I purchased this bundle with no regrets. However, I discovered that you'll need an external HD to download games (I prefer digital distribution because my little boys scratch CD games). The SD card and internal memory are used for game content as well as other tasks such as app downloads. So, if you buy either version of the Wii U and want to download games, you'll need at least a 500GB hard drive (20GB per game on average). My kids adore this setup, and the tablet is a cool controller that adds some unique functionality to console gaming. You may need to purchase additional Skylanders toys in order to complete the game, but the kids are content with the ones that came with it. I'm glad I didn't waste money on the deluxe version and instead purchased this bundle. Oh, and here's a hint: when you open the box, don't get the kids too excited. All of the updates will take approximately 3 hours to download. In addition to the initial update, each game and app requests an update for the console. So pick it up on Friday, put the kids to bed, set it up at night, and surprise them on Saturday.
The Wii U is the most advanced console in the current generation. It's possible that it's the system, but it's also possible that it's not. I would expect problems with a used system, but this one was supposed to be brand new. Because it glitched, I had to repeatedly hold the power button. If it's brand new, Nintendo could have done better; I only bought it because my son requested one for his birthday; I doubt I'll buy another Nintendo console after this. In the 1990s, they were entertaining to play, but the stupid Wii remote mic setting has irritated me greatly. I like Skylanders, but I'm not going to buy every single figure, and I'm not going to buy Disney's Infinity either. My son, on the other hand, couldn't care less. I did, however, connect an external drive for additional storage, which works great, but you will need to purchase a y usb cord, even if you have an ac power cord for the external drive, which I got for $3 on eBay.
The Swap Force Bundle was an excellent purchase! After my Nintendo broke down after a long period of inactivity, I began looking for a replacement when I came across this. I considered switching platforms, but I decided to stick with the Wii because I had already purchased so many games for it. With the exception of some lengthy upgrades that were required once the Wii was connected, I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the installation went. The controller was a pleasant surprise; it was as simple to operate as my four-year-old could have imagined. year- The touch screen was easily controlled by the grandson, who was only a few years old. He'd never played Swap Force before, so the fact that some characters and a portal were included piqued his interest. He quickly advanced to the Swap Force Trap Team, which introduced him to a slew of new characters and traps.
Because my old Wii couldn't read the disks any longer, I decided to upgrade to this unit after reading the reviews. I haven't played with the Skylanders system yet, so I can't comment on its merits. I became engrossed in the Disney Infinity series of games. The only issue I'm having is transferring data from the previous Wii U to this one. Nintendo's customer service is on par with Apple's. The game pad is simple to use, and the U graphics on Infinity are very nice. The only thing to keep in mind is that after two hours of play, you should charge the game pad because the battery light is too small to notice while playing. As others have stated, if you want to keep playing your old Wii games or if you have more than one player, this is the best investment.
There does not appear to be a 1-star rating for Ninetendo. There is an 800 number available. This was a Christmas present to myself that I purchased from Amazon in December. The gamepad stopped working in early January. I followed all of the troubleshooting instructions to a tee. I even had to buy the small screwdrivers in order to remove the battery. The gamepad died once more after I removed the battery. Now is the time for me to fix it. Ninety-nine dollars must be sent to Ninetendo. I only used it a few times before it became obsolete. There does not appear to be a 1-star rating for Ninetendo. I don't have an 800 number to call to speak with a live person, so the only way I can resolve this is to pay the $99.
