It can play games from the Nintendo DS era
5/5

What I like about it: large screen, fun and easy-to-use interface (if you blow on the mic in the menu while hovering over an icon, the icon will spin), backwards compatibility with old DS games (thank you for letting me play Pokemon Platinum again), and overall, it's just a damn good handheld system, which comes as no surprise from Nintendo. What I don't like: The memory card that comes with the game is quite small, so if you want to do digital downloads, you'll only be able to fit one game on it. Another thing I don't like is that it doesn't have a GameBoy game slot on the bottom like the old DS, but I understand that this was never going to happen with the 3DS, so I'm not counting it as a negative. br>br>Other than that, it's a fantastic system that allowed me to relive my childhood by allowing me to play the games I used to play at night under my bed sheets.

With a few minor flaws, this is a fantastic portable system
5/5

So far, my Nintendo 3DS XL has been an excellent purchase. With the exception of the following flaws, I think it's fantastic: br>br>The 3D effect is extremely difficult to achieve. You can make it work if you sit in one position and are willing to fiddle with the device's position until everything lines up perfectly. Then the magic happens, and the 3D comes to life, which is fantastic as long as you don't move. At all. If you reach for a snack or a drink, or if you turn your head, you'll most likely have to reposition yourself once you've refocused on the device. Fortunately, I've read that only a few games require 3D, so if you don't want to mess with it, you can simply turn it off and enjoy a nice 2D image on the top screen. br>br>While the battery life of the 3DS XL is better than the original 3DS (despite the larger screens), I still wish for more battery life; it's not bad, but I know I'll lose battery capacity as the device ages, so I'd like to have more up front. br>br>While the top screen has been widened, the touch screen has retained its original aspect ratio. While this was most likely done for DS backward compatibility, it does mean that some DS gameplay ideas don't translate well to the 3DS. You might be asked to point to a location on a map in the Ace Attorney series, for example. The map image would slide from the top screen to the touch screen on the DS versions, allowing you to tap on it. Because the top screen is wider than the bottom, the sliding effect is not used in the only Ace Attorney game for the 3DS, and you must slide your stylus across the bottom screen to move a cursor on the top screen to where you want to point. This is far less convenient than the system used in the DS games, and I assume it was done to compensate for the 3DS's screen size mismatch. Finally, the 3DS does not always recognize a DS game when I put it in the game slot. This is a minor gripe, as ejecting and reinserting the card has solved the problem in every case so far.

With a couple of caveats, this is a fantastic handheld console
4/5

I bought my 3DS because I commute to work for almost three hours every day, taking the bus and subway, and I'm glad I did. I was on the verge of purchasing a 2DS, but decided against it because of the larger screen, and I'm glad I did. The build quality is excellent, and it still feels as solid as it did on the first day after several months of use. The controls are excellent, but as others have stated, after a long gaming session, your hands may begin to hurt. This isn't a big deal for me because I usually only play for 20 minutes or so at a time; my only gripe is that the image isn't as crisp as it is on a smartphone or other handheld console like the Vita. This isn't a huge issue, but the resolution isn't up to par with current standards (though the 3DS is a few years old, so I'll overlook it). br>br>I enjoy the variety of games available. During my commute, I prefer to play more relaxing games like Mario, Zelda, and Animal Crossing, all of which are available on the 3DS. The battery life is excellent, and I can usually play for a couple of days before needing to charge it (with the brightness set to maximum). I usually turn off the 3D effect and only use it when playing specific games. I find it distracting in a lot of games, especially because the viewing angle is so small, and the battery lasts much longer when it's turned off. It's still fun to use on occasion, and I'm glad it's available. Overall, if you don't mind the lower screen resolution and aren't looking for a handheld system with mostly hardcore fighting/shooting games, I strongly recommend it.

The Nintendo 3DS XL is incredible! This is a purchase that you will not be disappointed with
5/5

This is the one for you, whether you have a previous DS console or are looking to purchase your first. The Nintendo 3DS XL is incredible! This is a purchase that you will not be disappointed with. I was so attached to my DSi (I didn't think anything could replace it) that when my husband bought a 3DS, I was just meh about it. I mean, it was cool and all, but I wasn't jealous he had it and still preferred my DSi. Then my husband bought the LE Pikachu 3DS XL, and I was completely blown away; it's far more than I could have imagined. It's fantastic in every way! I was envious of you! I had hoped to get a Pikachu LE 3DS XL, but instead received a Mario 3DS XL. Because the pikachu version of the Luigi Dream Team LE 3DS XL sold out on release day (at least in our area), we went with the Luigi Dream Team LE 3DS XL. The 3DS XL is fantastic in both versions. Given that it was Luigi's year, I believe they could have used a better image on the Dreamteam console. Only Luigi (or Luigi in front of Mario for a change) and some green, but that's for another review. It doesn't matter which 3DS XL you get now, it's a great buy!.

MINE IS STILL ON THE GO! The only downside is that now that the new ones have come out, Nintendo no longer supports the older ones, but I've had a lot of fun with mine! I'm hoping to upgrade to a newer version so that I can continue to use street pass; it's a lot of fun to collect friends and use them in MiiVerse! I like that I can save games on expandable micro SD cards, and the store has a lot of fun games to choose from
4/5

I don't want to give up the console because it's been very reliable and I've found a lot of accessories for it. ) I would recommend getting screen protectors, as the stylus that comes with it is good but gets scratched over time.
