The frequency with which you use it will determine how long it lasts. I bought it four years ago and used it to clean a batch of records with no problems. Now I'm working on another batch of records (the total number of records in both batches is less than 200). The rollers' rubber gaskets have shrunk and are beginning to wear out. The rollers have a theoretical capacity of 10,000 washes, but no matter what you do, time will be your enemy.
The Spin-Off, Bruce Clean is not a powered device; it is entirely manual. The records are cleaned by manually rotating them a certain number of times in one direction (3 rotations). 4 rotations recommended) and then the same number of rotations the other way. The brushes remove debris, while the solution traps dirt and gunk at the bottom of the container.

In terms of label sensitivity, I know a DJ who persuaded me to try a clean kitchen sink with a few drops of plain Dawn and a gentle brush, followed by drip-drying. Time limit: ten minutes If you're cleaning dozens of records at once, a hair dryer held a few feet away will suffice. so that no vinyl gets warped will drastically reduce the time it takes to complete a task. My friend was correct in claiming that labels after 1974 are extremely water resistant for whatever reason. Any labels from before 1974 were also more sensitive, according to my research. I still submerge these older records, but instead of letting them drip dry, I quickly dry them with a microfiber rag. dry. It's not something I'd do with a valuable record ( $10) because I've seen minor label bubbling on a few occasions, but the bubbles vanished in minutes with no lasting damage. I've never had any ink "run."

This purchase has exceeded my expectations. I've probably cleaned about 75 records so far, the majority of which were purchased used and graded G, VG, or VG+. I'd say at least half of them, if not all of them, have improved enough to move up a grading scale. Pops and crackles are often significantly reduced, and the records are left looking nice and shiny. This is far superior to the old Discwasher brush kits. br>br>I believe there are two misconceptions about this item that need to be addressed. br>br>The first problem is that the label gets wet. You won't have to worry about labels spinning into the water if you fill the washer correctly (all the way to the fill line). Water can, on the other hand, drip off the half of the record that isn't in the water and onto the label as the record is spun. I don't think this would harm a label much, especially if the water is quickly wiped away. If there is writing on the label, any ink present will smudge if it comes into contact with water dripping off the top half of the record, as I discovered the hard way. Second, you'll notice that the majority of the dirt, dust, and lint removed from your records will settle to the washer's bottom. However, enough of this dirt will remain suspended in the solution after several records have been washed, so I'm not sure I agree with the other reviewers who claim that after several washings, you're not getting even a speck of junk back onto your record. After cleaning 75 or so records, I've already replaced the water in the tank three times because the water looked too dirty to continue using. Now, regardless of what’s getting back onto the disc, I am 100% convinced that any record I’ve cleaned ends up in much better condition after the cleaning, and I?% However, I'm not a die-hard audiophile, and if you are, this may not be the record cleaner for you - Because of this, Otherwise, trust your instincts, dump the water and refill when the time comes, and keep going. br>br>Oh, and you'll almost certainly need more cleaning cloths, especially if you're cleaning for an extended period of time. The two cloths that come with the set work fine, but after about ten records each, they'll become saturated, and you'll be left with nothing but pushing water around on the disc.
This product cleans vinyl well, but there is one flaw that made me want to throw it out the window. The rollers would pop up out of the grooves on a regular basis. I was able to improve my technique and alleviate the problem, but it was still a pain to use. Drilling four holes above the bottom of the roller grooves allowed me to modify the device. After dropping the rollers into place, I inserted plastic screw anchors. This prevents the rollers from jumping up and greatly improves the ease with which the records can be spun. I'm not sure why the unit isn't built with this in mind, so I'm giving it a 4 instead of a 5 star rating.
I didn't think anything could save them, but I did some research, bought it, and gave it a shot. The records appear to be BRAND NEW, much to my surprise. And, what's more, they're as good as new! I'm very happy with this product, and I've included a before and after photo for comparison.
This system is incredibly simple to use and extremely effective. Most of my LPs are in excellent condition to begin with, but I do occasionally purchase used LPs. Despite the fact that I buy vinyl in good condition, they have all benefited from cleaning so far. Even if they appear to be clean, there are usually things you can't see that will affect playback, even if it's just a small amount of dust. br>br>Be aware that cleaning your records with this product will take some time and effort. It is a straightforward system. It's a cleaning fluid tank with brushes on both sides and in the middle. The brushes have a snug fit, which is necessary for cleaning the vinyl. However, you don't simply spin the album as if it were on rollers and freestanding. The brushes are tight enough that you have to turn the record manually with some effort; you can only get about 1/4 to 1/3 of a turn each time; if you try to spin more than that, you'll likely end up lifting the record out of the tank due to the design. br>br>According to the manufacturer, 3 full rotations in each direction are recommended. Even if you're lightning fast, it'll take you a couple of minutes to complete each record; in fact, three is probably the best number. If you only do one of the tasks, you will be considered a cheater. After two turns, you're likely to miss some deeply embedded dirt, and after three turns, you're probably out of luck. Unless you have a Brillo pad, whatever else is on the viny isn't going to come off without it! br>br>Lift the record back out after the three manual turns each way. Keep in mind that the tank is tight enough that pulling the record out could cause it to tip or lift. Although I believe it is well-designed to avoid tipping, I usually end up pulling the record out with one hand while holding the tank down with the other. br>br>After that, you must dry the record, which I recommend doing by holding it above the tank for three minutes. Allow 5 seconds for more fluid to drain back into the tank. Don't worry, the fluid will follow the grooves around the label rather than running across it. To get a little more fluid off, I gently tap the edge of the LP on the tank. br>br>After that, I place the LP on a CLEAN and SOFT towel. I use a microfiber cloth to dry the underside. I then turn it over and dry the other side before putting the LP into a NEW archival sleeve and letting it air dry any remaining moisture. (Returning it to a soiled paper sleeve would be pointless. ) br>br>I'm guessing this system is 95 percent effective. 99% as efficient as $5000 automated machines The difference is a lot more time spent working, which I don't mind. br>br>Use caution when cleaning with water and cleaning fluid. Replace it when it becomes low or dirty. Don't be concerned about adhering to rules. It's a cheap liquid. Maintain the cleanliness and clarity of your tank and cleaning solution.
