It is useless
3/5

As my old DVD recorder got out of commission and I didn't want to pay a monthly fee to my cable provider, I purchased this recorder in 2018. If you have a video signal provided by a PVR such as Spectrum, this machine is completely useless as a recorder. Initially, I thought Spectrum would scramble the cable channels, but they also scramble the freebies and the over the air (broadcast) channels. It is likely that you will be similarly restricted if you are wired to cable. I have updated Spectrum has nothing to do with it. There is nothing to like about this machine. My machine has refused discs from three separate batches of blank discs, claiming they cannot be recorded on. I have recorded two videos from freebie TV, and yet the machine rejected discs from both recordings. Due to the fact that I missed my original return possibility by a month, I am stuck with this absolutely horrible piece of crap. DO NOT BUY THIS!.

I do any research I can on DVD-ROMs, so if you have too, you should have done your own As a result of your recorders, you have found a deluge of information that is largely contradictory. When my Toshiba DVD recorder died, I started shopping for another one. It had a long and productive life at my place, and I started looking for another one when it died. In my quest to find the best price and models, I examined all the brands and models. I found what I was looking for, OK. My goal was to find a basic DVD recorder that I could use to make archival copies of DVDs, home movies, etc. I also wanted to use it for DVD playback and upscaling DVDs to 720p (the resolution It was not my intention to use it to record TV shows while I was away.

While doing my homework, it became clear that DVDs are not exactly easy to convert to a smaller file size. For the most part, recorders are not considered to be the state of the art (they have been replaced by DVRs, Tivo, etc. ). Although this was no surprise to most people, including me, I went ahead anyway because I knew what I wanted and how I would use it. I have come back to this unit over and over again while searching for information. Because it is reasonably priced, I had a Toshiba before, so I was familiar with its operation, so I went ahead and looked into it more. While the vast majority of reviews were positive, there was a small list of reviews that gave it poor The more I examined those responses, the more I realized most of them were not satisfied with the recorder's ability to record continuously (while people were absent). Additionally, the ability to play recorded DVDs in other DVD players was another major complaint. It turned out that most of these complaints were from people who didn't know that a DVD needs to be 'finalized' before it can be played on other players. (I was aware of this since I had bought a DVD-ROM before. I have experience with recorders). As it was apparent that I would not be using the unit for absentee recording, and as I was aware of the disc finalizing problems, I obtained it. I have now had it for a few months, and have already recorded several items with it. There are several DVDs in this set My recorder has done exactly what I wanted it to Recordings seem to be good. With this player I can play and upscale my DVDs so they can look better on my TV. It is also easy to use. Depending on your preferences, you can either set your DVD recorder so that finalization takes place automatically, or you can perform the finalization * I have played DVDs recorded with this unit on Sanyo and Magnavox DVD players as well as on my computer's DVD drive. I have no problems with this! My mood is good! In terms of price, features, and performance, all of them seem okay to Possibly they will also be a good fit for you. The stars are 5 out of 5.

It can be used to replace a VCR (plus it can upconvert DVDs)

What a great unit this is! In recent weeks we upgraded our TV to an HD 40" and needed a replacement Recording TV shows (and On-Demand A movie) at a high enough quality for HD viewing is required.
br>One option was--DVR from Comcast for $10/month (which might or might not allow one to record On-Demand programming I need to have movies transferred to my computer so that I can burn them to disc A burning fire). There was also recourse to installing a video acquisition device on a computer and recording to hard drive. The third option was this system from Amazon for $110 delivered I consider this unit to be the best option since it does not record true HD resolution, but the quality is about the same (in 2 hour mode, 16x9) as regular first, I was concerned that discs recorded onto a DVD player might not play on another DVD player After the recording is finalized, they did it with no problem on any of our equipment (that is, after the recording is complete). Video recording on a DVD takes a lot of time Two hours and eight minutes were used on the R disc (on high quality mode). Titles are named after the recording time, but the title can be changed). pretty good (enough so that we're not so interested in buying a Blu-ray player The Ray player is not yet available *Though not a major complaint, we find the tray a little difficult to access (and there is no door for it to open). The eject is a bit slow & slow You can bring in video sources). This unit is easy to hook up to our cable box (or TV) and record from their output.

I think this will make a fabulous backup unit until Blu-ray is available. As Ray recorders become less expensive, they are becoming more common.

It will be obsolete for some users in the near future, if not already

Since I first got it, I've had the opportunity to use it a few times. Despite the roughness of the recording, it's worth sharing with you. The thing is that it doesn't have any titles and it doesn't start as a regular DVD would. The best way to approach this is as if it were an old To record from my DVR, it worked for me. Now here are the bad news. All those of you thinking that you will simply record ALL the shows saved on your DVR need to You cannot do this on most shows anymore due to blocking by cable companies. The Google search terms "copy once" and "copy never" will help you find the right one. As you can see, the story goes as follows. HBO, for instance, uses a "copy once" coding scheme to protect their transmissions. The recording to your DVR is only made once. That's all there is to You won't have to back up anymore. There are some shows that will never be recorded, meaning that they cannot even be placed on "On Demand" is what you need to think about. There are many cable companies, but I can only speak for According to my research, it has been found that putting a video stabilizer in line will resolve the scrambling issue. About $100 will get you one of these video stabilizers. It's easy to find them too if you Google them. The signal must be analog, however, in order to work with them. Those yellow cables with the plug in. So you folks that want 6 million dots of high-resolution on your screen along with the ability to back up your shows, you'll be out of luck once more. * However, it actually does what it says it does, it's just that someone has deprived you of the ability to use it freely.
