Questions & Answers

Do the embedded software and the embedded hardware look alike? What are some of the features of blue iris that I like?

As a replacement for blue iris, I have this now. The features are similar and it includes much better performance than blue iris, in my opinion. Most of the products it supports are Amcrest devices, so if you have other brands, it may not be compatible with them.

Do you have the possibility of viewing your camera feed remotely via a smart phone or tablet?

The answer is yes. As well as the Amcrest app, there are other apps that come with home security systems that can let you view things remotely on a smart device. If you are in a location without Wi-Fi, you may get a message that says "can't connect.". The Internet connection must be good, or the cellular connection must be decent.

How will the 2020 version differ from the current one? There is a version with 16 channels?

Compared to the older units, the new ones have a more modern motherboard and a strong A member of the Amcrest

Is it possible to add cameras from other brands?

It is not recommended to use 3rd party cameras with Amcrest Technologies due to software incompatibility which will result in a loss of features. A member of the Amcrest

I am reviewing for the third time and have lowered my rating My downloads are still working, but I was watching a video that I wanted The USB stick must be directly attached to the computer in order I download ten files to cover a 15 minute period. All ten files start at the same time, last at the correct time, and last for the length of time according to how long I am supposed to be My result was a set of files with all of them starting I was able to watch three different clips from 130am to 330am with the longest being about 3 minutes long, so I got to see what I From 35 to 1 a. m. I didn't find any files 45am) that I was looking for. It has been a few tries now to get video for different days/time periods, but each time I do not get the time period I wanted. ***** Here is the original review and first revision ****

Only that it worked, the easy connection of two Amcrest cameras, an Amcrest doorbell, and a Reolink camera was the only thing good about it. I used to use an old 1080p 4 channel NVR, and the firmware that came with it was just as bad as the firmware that came with my old 1080p 4 channel NVR. If you consider that I had to install an extension in Chrome in order to use it, it's even worse. After upgrading the firmware to the most recent 2020 firmware (without assistance from Amcrest's website, which wanted me to sign up for firmware notifications. It took me a while for someone to find a direct link to the firmware download page), the interface improved greatly, and the process of looking for recorded data was simple with As of recently, I have not been able to view live video from my two 4K Amcrest cameras remotely using a browser because the cameras just "spin" instead. generation core-i5 is a Playback of 4K videos also appears to suffer the same problems as playing back regular videos. I have not been able to test this feature yet since it doesn't seem intuitive to do, but I'm hoping that downloading video won't be as problematic and frustrating as it used to be with some older NVRs. The *br*- I edited it. OK, downloading video from YouTube is not easy for me. It is installed as a headless unit (no TV or Monitor in the room) and I'm unable to download videos. If you want to download video from an NVR, you must be using the NVR directly, and also have a USB drive attached to it. The first review I did did not mention the fact that it comes with an annoying loud fan. A Noctua 40 mm 12 V fan is a highly recommended alternative to the existing With the Noctua fans moving more air at a lower volume, there is enough room to install a deeper fan, drastically reducing the amount of noise. Following that, the only noise that remains is the vibration of the solid drive. If you want to do an installation like I did in a quiet place, you can fix this with some isolation grommets. Even though I had to go through these extra steps for the price, I didn't knock any stars off.

It was a good night
4/5

This NVR has a total of five Amcrest cameras connected to it. A wireless connection is used for one, and cat6 POE is used for the rest. As far as the NVR hardware goes, it seems to function normally. It took me a little after adding the hard drive to get it up and running. You can easily set up your system. It is a little challenging to use the NVR user interface. Although the NVR interface is tricky in general, I think all of them are. All you need to do is spend a little time and you will eventually be able to understand The features I won't use are nice to have, but I won't use them, so they are good to have too. I have the device on my desk where I work. Hard drive and fan noise are not noticeable to me (or I don't notice them). I like how quiet it is. It would have been great if there had been a remote control included. The mouse that comes with it is not very good I doubt I will use the mouse much (as I doubt I will use the keyboard as well). Despite trying a real keyboard, I couldn't get the nvr to work. There were a few that I tried Sadly, it wasn't to be. It is not possible to type certain characters on the onscreen keyboard It was impossible for me to type my password because the keyboard did not support one of the characters when I attempted to set up my email account for alerts. It is interesting (but also frustrating). Unless I change my password into something more user-friendly, I'll need to use this account. As of yet, I have not tried any other cameras related to the device. I had no trouble setting up the Amcrest cameras. This tip will help you Make sure that ALL cameras are using the same password. There's no rhyme or reason to why I came up with a few different names. There's nothing fun about it. This is the kind of product I would purchase again if I needed it. As far as I am concerned, it's fine for me. (Can someone come up with a way to clean spider webs from cameras automatically? These seem to be a favorite of spiders).

The quality of the network is only as good as the network itself
5/5

Using an 802. 11b wireless router, I plugged in this unit. The 11n wireless standard On a 2, an FI extender is mounted. Eight streaming devices, including two Fire TV Sticks 4K, can be connected to the 4GHz network, which allows eight cameras to share *300 Mbps. By default, the camera is set to 720p, 10 fps, and 1,024 kbps, which added to the throughput problem. Even with those settings, I'm very happy with performance and quality. A 12 inch monitor is attached to the NVR, which sits on my desk. This CCTV monitor has a resolution of 1080p. About 2 dBA more ambient noise is generated from where I am sitting thanks to the fan. Despite the difference in interface, the little optical mouse is just as nice as that of any other NVR I have used. The ease of stepping through recordings in tenths of a second is appealing to me. If I wanted more data, I would need to upgrade my network. This NVR is a very good one for the price.
