Questions & Answers

It appears that this 996P2 radio can be connected to a Uniden BC-250 To rely on GPS, would you like a GPS receiver that is serial for scanning and marine products?

With the 996P2, this GPS set is quite nice. However, Uniden has not updated their BIOS as you can look into the GPS menu, but it says NO RANGE in the current BIOS. The frequency I get in my car is for a city more than 20 miles away from where I live in Raynham, Bristol, Massachusetts. Using the GPS only for five miles is what I want to do. Uniden must update the BIOS you may find on the Net and see if you look for the BIOS for the 996P2 by pressing Paul

What is the preproduction status of this model?

There is no pre-programming on the uniden BCD996P2 Digital scanner. You will need to program it yourself. Remember It can take as much as an hour or two to program, but I recommend these scanners that are already programmed with your zip code simply by putting it in - they are the Whistler WS1095 digital scanner. There is the Uniden Home Patrol 2 scanner and the Uniden BCD 536HP scanner. This answer is provided in the hope that you will find it useful. Fans of cops

Does this work with the newest Integrated Audio System from Des Moines?

The situation is not good. There are many simulcast sites located in Des Moines that are part of the Iowa Statewide Interoperable Communications System (ISICS). Usually if you are in range of two towers broadcasting the same frequency, there will be a problem. The Uniden SDS100 and 200 are the only scanners that are capable of handling multicast in this capacity.

Are vipers picked up by this device?

this radio can receive calls from the NC Viper system that are not encrypted.

5/5

Since the analogue scanner days (over twenty years ago), I have not bought a new scanner. Using this scanner is a great experience for me. When you bought the old analog scanner, you had to buy a frequency book and plug in all the frequencies by hand. There was no easy way to do that. In spite of the complexity of trunking systems, using RadioReference allows for seamless communication. It is much easier to program these scanners using software such as com and freescan. The only advice I can give those who do not own a PC and try to program these scanners through the buttons on the front is best of luck! My scanner arrived before I did some reading, and I downloaded the Freescan software and set up my channels. As you practice building Uniden systems, then sites, and finally talkgroups, you will become comfortable with the way to create them. A multi-faceted approach The site trunking scanning procedure is as follows You don't need to be an expert to use it. Read about it, take a few lessons, and you can start using it.

Unboxing my scanner, installing the driver on my PC, and loading It took me less than 15 minutes to start working.

Digital Base Scanner is the techie's dream, but it is so advanced that it takes several months to master
5/5

A scanner such as this one is capable of receiving most of everything (not encrypted) in the Police/Fire/Public Service/Military Air/Gov/Misc bands in either analog or digital settings. The company receives a P-grade from APCO Phase I and II of 25 digital (both It looks as though P-II) signals are great for me with my stock antenna, but I am positioned well to receive two actual P- signals The system is distributed across 25 trunk radio towers with good signal quality. Unless you have a digital signal, you don't need an antenna on 800 MHz signals. There are about six of them. It is recommended to use an antenna no longer than 5 inches in length for 800 MHz. The ST-110 comes with a mounting kit for the attic Thanks to two antennas mounted on a television antenna booster, I can receive analog signals 60 miles away cleanly, but it takes flat terrain up to the top of the Willis Tower to do it. **If you have marginal (P- or On signal levels of 800 Mhz, there won't be a lot of signal bars illuminated, the trunk tracking will not be correct, and no audio will be heard because the computer can't decode the digital modulation, or it As soon as you get the trunking lock on a control channel of the When the radio is set to the 25 mode, the actual frequency of the system will appear (small) on the display, otherwise "NFM" will appear which means the system is not being tracked, and this will result in failure. At busy moments you will have plenty of possibility of getting locked on a control channel and the network will load talkgroups on demand at will. You will then need to label them or choose what to listen to as there will be lots of talkgroups (channels). For digital trunking systems, the channel you want to hear depends on whether the tower near you broadcasts the talkgroup channels you are interested in. If you scan your cards with a digital scanner, you cannot pick up trunking signals. There are times when the signals fade, since some of these tower signals get more or less power as they travel up and down the towers. An appropriate monitoring system must be in place to ensure full effectiveness In order to properly receive ALL of the channels (talkgroups) in that Police system you want to hear, the scanner may need to "listen" to 6 or more towers (in one system) that are all directions from you that use varying RF power levels for each frequency. I understand if this seems too complicated. A P25 digital trunking system has a Computer Control channel that directs the police computer what frequency to use or "hop to" (each split second). You may receive that particular frequency (talkgroup) from various towers (and all at nearly the same time! Simulcasting distortion also known as P-Wave makes listening to APCO music difficult There is a 25-channel police trunking radio system that is extremely hard to decipher using any new All these signals are disrupted by bad weather such as winds, rains, and leaf litter. There is no way around it. Depending on your location, you may be in a good or a bad spot. It is possible that you overlooked details in your programming, yes, I did it A radio engineer can have a hard time dealing with it even if he or she has 25 signals), or big TV, radio, cell towers nearby with mega kw watts, etc. That's the case for the most part. It takes some time to get the hang of It consists of 25 digital files. It tracks the control signals, does it not? There is no. Test again by moving the antenna or the radio a few inches. In my experience, the BCD996P2 (once properly configured) is the best at receiving everything! This scanner works great on the factory antenna in my area even with the factory In terms of bandscope mode, it is also wonderful. That's what I love about You are the one responsible for resolving the critical issues You may follow- You must program it first before you can If you are going to program this scanner with a computer, then I recommend that you learn the Radio Reference website first. You might take a while to learn what you need to do. This scanner does not permit that you program it using zip codes as some others do. Using Freescan (sixspotsoftware) is a great way to check your computer, I use it, and there are plenty of others you can try. The USB cable included with the scanner can be used to connect the scanner to a PC. The use of an outside scanner antenna with at least an RG-6 is required Using the 6 cable will give you the best reception and allow you to hear every sound in this scanner. As well as the TV antenna, I use a cheap (75 ohm) TV signal booster with 18 db gain on a 50ft RG-63 cable. A 6 ant splitter and a 4 ant splitter are available. The RF signal levels are high (when we use the bandscope mode) but there is no overload that I am aware of. In most cases, however, you can get just as good results with the back of set stock antenna for local signals (20 miles or so), whether analog or digital. When using an 800 Mhz antenna, like one from Remtronix, you will receive only 800 Mhz signals. There are 3 cables included with the scanner a DC power cord with a lighter plug, a DC power cord with 2 DC power cords, and an AC power adapter. It can be used in the car using the DC power cords. An example of this unit can be seen here the portable BCD325P2-Handheld Scanner. The operating system, the user interface, and the programming are identical. Using a digital system, this 996P2 model is equipped with a bottom fire speaker with a "deep bass audio sound", and it sounds much like a loudness circuit in a stereo, compared to my RS-205 An older desktop scanner with a tinnier sound is the 652. Among the 7 colors you can choose for the display, it has many signal adjustments for each channel/system, which is why you have to be patient. Upgrade this scanner to receive ProVoice, MotoTrbo, and DMR for an additional fee, but Uniden does not offer those options now. The upgrades aren't available to me and my chances of getting them are slim. There are many people who are frustrated with these new digital scanners. If you are an expert, this scanner works marvelously - you can actually "hear" everything though not encrypted If you're going to handle this, be sure you have at least a few days/weeks of time and patience to devote to it. Getting used to something new can be extremely challenging. Listening on your stereo is not as simple as plugging it in, choosing a few channels, and listening as it used to be. For every channel, there are a dozen parameters that must be configured first, such as a first channel prefix, A 25 channel digital system may have two dozen parameters to set up first and one dozen items per channel on top of that. An SD memory card is not required in order to save channels and data on this scanner. Problematic and causing a variety of odd errors, these can be incredibly problematic. Nevertheless, this scanner (once it is programmed correctly) is a techs dream to work with and it is an upgraded variation of my all-time favorite companion I always have on my belt, Despite its ease of use, this scanner is quite challenging for the average person to operate and set up. There is simply no way to describe how incredible this scanner is (it has exceptional abilities) and how it is marketed mostly to.

The Lexington Ky Public Safety system or encrypted systems are not supported. You will find these items in the box This scanner comes with two antennas, a telescoping antenna, a dc harness, and an antenna. The kit includes a USB charger, a car adapter, a mounting bracket and a booklet with instructions. In general, it works as advertised and more or less meets Amazon reviews, but a few other things could have been done better. First things first! Fully encrypted systems will not be able to listen to audio generated by this scanner. The time period. Keys will be seen to turn on, but there will be no sound heard. I second that! Neither this scanner nor any computer anti-virus software will decrypt or decrypt your The "static hum" you hear when a channel starts up is the channel being No way to decode it exists. Third, third, third! It is possible to purchase a Uniden ProVoice or DMR system after a paid upgrade. There is a price difference between ProVoice and DMR of $45 and $60, respectively. To determine if any of these will apply to you, check the systems you will be using. You can use Radio Reference to get the answers you need. I am IT'S A PAIN IN THE ASS TO PROGRAM! As a matter of fact, I'd say the most important thing you can do and the best advice I can give here is to subscribe to RadioReference Premium. The company. More than $350 is being paid by you. Even if you were to spend just $200 for a scanner, it would be well worth it to spend an additional $150 for 180 days. Making programming easier is a good thing. It's better now. Those who have never used the system before will still take a while to get to know all its features, especially the groups, channels, and quick keys. This scanner has a USB programming cable, which can be used to program it. In the reviews, it is accuratly mentioned that the speaker is low or muffled. A few of the reviews were a little harsh, but I think it could have been It is a costly machine, considering how much we are paying for it. I bought an external Uniden speaker for $16, 2 days after I got it. I have given this review 5 stars overall. This is not the scanner's fault. It is the Uniden company's fault. It is not the scanner's fault. It is as much machine as I need. This is a great machine. I recommend it highly With the antenna that came with it, I'm able to pick up transmissions from up to 60 miles away. Below I've included a picture of one of the trunking systems this will cover as well as a few other pictures. Keep in mind! SCREEN THE SYSTEMS YOU ARE GOING TO SCAN TO CHECK IF THEY ARE DMR OR ProVoice (additional expensive updates available) AS WELL. A cipher is needed if the file is encrypted. I'm afraid you will never hear of it!.

I love this scanner - effective and easy to use
5/5

Designed for enthusiasts who can handle advanced scanners. This is the first scanner I've owned for many years, and this one is all I hoped it would To start with, I would suggest you sign up for the 'Premium' subscription to 'Radioreference' and the FreeScan subscription. Although Freescan makes programming the BCD996P2 easy, if you are a 'beginner' there is quite a steep learning curve, but tough it out! As a reward, you'll get what you deserve. Our aim is to be able to view and monitor digital channels, such as Raleigh Fire / PD / Wake County Sheriff, as well as NCSHP. With the OEM antenna, I am able to receive many of the conventional channels as well as DISH Network. (I might buy another indoor antenna just to see how much more I can receive. There is only one 'complaint' I have, and that is that it took almost a month to receive it. I highly recommend this scanner (ordered 12/19/2018 and received it on 01/11/2019)
