There is a constant drain on the battery of this CB radio. No matter if the switch is on or off, this appliance is always using energy. The worse part is that, when the vehicle battery gets very low, the device goes crazy (best technical description I have), and it will self destruct. This product was installed in my Jeep, which sits undriven for several days at a time, but usually gets started In addition, as the Jeep's battery was depleted, at some point, the device would constantly broadcast an audible indicator and switch off and on repeatedly. It did this even when the power switch for the cb was turned About five times, the CB would no longer function after this drain. As best as I can tell, it bricked itself of its own design. Ideally, you want to install a power shunt between this board and the power source in order to prevent the battery from draining and the board from self-destructing.
It was a Cobra 29 LX MAX radio that I had for about 30 days before I A big thank you to To replace it, I bought a Cobra 29 LX (no MAX). During the first week of usage (MAX model), kept blowing the 2amp inline fuse (3). There were some instances when it didn't blow a fuse but still refused to work. In my experience, the 29 LX (no MAX) model has been flawless, and I hope it will continue to be so. I did not change anything in the wiring when switching between the two models. The wiring harness that came with the MAX model was even used.
What a great idea. (The first time we saw it it scared us. LOL) According to what I was told, that is normal behavior for a NOAA CF. Thus far, that feature has come in handy a few times. I would recommend this to everyone!.
We have picked some one from 20 miles away so far. It is a work of great craftsmanship from Cobra.
Okay, so I just got this CB radio and plugged it in and discovered my cb Mike button was stuck and would not Another way of putting it is that it is stuck in talk mode.
The screws on the power cable plug became loose after minimal use, too.
The product has only been in my possession for three months, and already it has There is no way I can communicate with others since the connection constantly breaks. There is no way for them to hear me & The sound is not coming through to me. It would not be a purchase I would make again & There is a need to replace this part.
Trimmer potentiometer VR6 is to blame for the issue. It is possible to find the bulletin by searching TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 10057 and Cobra has a link to it. There is a detailed explanation of how to resolve the issue with the ANT warning. Since I did not have the tools as specified in the directions, I applied an intuitive approach to the information. The following are the steps I took Disconnect the CB from the power source first. 1) Remove the outer covers. 3) Reconnect the radio to a 12v power source 4) Find the VR6 between the antenna jack and the power jack on the back of the radio. It appears to be a circular dial with flat sides. Imagine that the coin is a small one 4) Turn the VR6 counter clockwise Turn the VR6 counterclockwise to the point where it It is important not to touch other circuitry while connected to the 12v power 5) Key the mic on, speak into it, then turn the VR6 clockwise until the ANT warning appears. After I attached the VR6 with a small piece of electrical tape, it was secure. the 12V power, reinstall the outer covers, and then install the As of now, I have a transmit signal strength A total of 5 on all channels 1 to 5 (I adjusted the swr with the new antenna with a swr meter before this VR* adjustment. ) Despite my best efforts, I still need to confirm range and clarity with another CB A spare tire mount is available for a 2000 Jeep Wrangler. You should note sensitivity of the 29 series VR6 may not have been setup correctly at the factory, AND it seems to move very easily. These factors could greatly affect sensitivity when the VR6 is knocked around on the road or trail, so the application of tape on it is recommended.
