Questions & Answers

Which do you think is a better buy: the IR110, IR130, or IR200, and why?

In a large property with many trees and driveways in between, I own two IR200s and a few IR130s. They're both 850nm and, from what I can tell, produce similar amounts of light. Because of its more concentrated beam, the IR200 illuminates further only, or mostly. The IR130 has a wider field of view, so you don't get a "circle of light" in the middle of your frame, but rather a uniform illumination. The IR130 has a better build quality and can be tilted, panned, and rotated on its mounting arm. So I only recommend the IR200 if you need to light as far as possible, and/or you're using a camera with a narrow FOV, or you're only interested in a portion of the frame, such as the driveway but not the rest of the scene. One or two 130's combined will be the best option if you want a wider illumination on a 50° FOV or more. br>A note on the IR200 and IR130's durability: A few leds will burn out over time, so having a unit that will die "slowly," one led at a time, rather than all at once, may be preferable. However, after two years, a few leds have burned out in each of my units, with no discernible effect on light output. br>Be sure to have a spare 12V 3A power adapter on hand, as these can also fail.

To what extent are the leds visible to the naked eye? Is it going to be obvious that this is there in the dark? Want to use it as a discreet security camera supplement?

These are not inconspicuous IR LEDs; they are very visible to the naked eye. In the dark, they glow a deep red. I have several of these, and I frequently walk by them in the dark. I've heard that they are not visible to the naked eye, but I disagree. That is completely false; they clearly do not own any of the lights. Having said that, these are fantastic IR LED Spotlights that cast a lot of light over a long distance; on security video, I can see coyotes roaming the neighborhood at a distance of 400 feet.

How long does a wave last?

The wavelength is a mystery to me. However, at night, it emits a very faint red glow that you wouldn't notice unless you looked directly into it.

Is it possible to turn off a motion sensor light with this?

No, it will not. That is how I have mine set up, and it works perfectly. I believe you will enjoy lt and be surprised by what you discover. BILL

On eBay, I discovered a diffusing film that transforms this into an AMAZING FLOOD LIGHT! This light is unmistakably a spotlight, but after some research, I decided to cover the glass with a plastic diffuser
5/5

The company from which I purchased it makes these plastic diffuser film sheets that can be used to manipulate light in a variety of ways. I figured I'd give it a shot despite the fact that their products are designed for photography. "Lee 400 Lee Lux White Diffusion Lighting Gel Filter Sheet 21"x24" is what I bought for around $20 on eBay. It's a 2' x 2' sheet that I cut down to fit the glass (which was removed from the housing by one latch). A quick test without it and then with it turned out to be incredible. This light has now been transformed into a truly super-wide, evenly distributed floodlight. According to my research, the 400 model of diffusing film was the best fit for what I was trying to achieve. You don't have to be afraid of the spot effect any longer! The diffusing film is incredible, and a single sheet covers over ten lights!.

The Big KaHoona has arrived! This is the Kahoona, the big one! For your cameras, this device illuminates the night
5/5

Down the street, there are a couple of whipper snappers who like to walk up the lawn around 10 p. m. and drop an M80 in the street in front of my house. So far, all I've seen is a shadow of them on the corner turning and running back to their house across the street. I need them to be better lit so that the cops can see where they go next time and arrest them for the night. I'm fed up with this nonsense. I think I'll have them the next time. The large kahoona on a post in the lower left corner can be seen. It will be moved to a permanent mount in my driveway after it has served its purpose, where another weasel has been checking car doors after midnight. All I need now is a better picture of him!.

While the IR source works well and is very bright, it does not come with the 12 Volt "adapter" that is described
3/5

I purchased this item because it claimed to have a "12-month guarantee. " It's a "voltage power adapter," which means it can be plugged into a 12-volt power source. sources of voltage This, however, is not the case. It connects to a power supply via a 120-volt plug and outputs 12 volts. It isn't a 12-step program. It's a 120 to 12-volt power adapter. volts of electricity br>br>The only reason I am not returning the product is that I have an inverter in my vehicle that I can use to continue to power it, which I am using as a secondary IR source for a hunting IR scope. br>br>As a result, while it is a bright, well-made IR light, it does not come with a 12-volt battery. ac adapter for volts It includes a 120-volt plug as well as a power supply. You'll need an inverter from a 12-volt battery to use in your car or while traveling. volt power supply to 120 volts, then back to 12 volts.

It's a spotlight, in case you didn't notice
5/5

When looking at the infrared camera, it truly does have a spotlight effect. We purchased it because our next-door neighbor has a truant ne'er-do-well. "Child" who had a habit of throwing eggs at my car, which needed to be cleaned the next day. Before we could really use this light, we finally caught him in the act one evening. In any case, I told the housing authority that if he tried to damage any of our property again, he'd be arrested. br>We just screwed a light to a piece of 2x4 because it's not technically property living in public housing, so screwing into concrete and such isn't an option, but we hid it behind some plants by our front door to light up the area where my car is parked. Within the view of the camera, I can see anyone approaching my car.

WOW! This is an extremely bright light! This is how we use it with our Ring Stick- Up Cam, which lacks sufficient lighting for night video
5/5

With its dazzling brightness, this took care of that. It's not a floodlight, but rather a spot light. The illumination, on the other hand, is not visible with the naked eye. The red glow that some reviewers are referring to is caused by the LED bulbs themselves. To see the red glow, you must look directly at the light, and it is very faint. The area of illumination does not have a red glow. This is a considerable amount of light. But I had to get this one because the smaller one is only available in white and would stand out against our dark stained exterior like a sore thumb. Love it! br>NOTE: THIS PAGE HAS BEEN UPDATED. To diffuse the light, I had to place a diffuser over the glass lens. It was so bright that it created a hot spot, making whatever was captured on our security camera at night difficult to see. It looked like a powerful spotlight. So, for about $3, I bought some translucent shelf liner, cut a piece to fit over the lens, and now we have a very nice flood light that illuminates a much larger area.

Flooding is not possible with Spot, but it can be adjusted
4/5

look at the critique I put this light up the day before yesterday and adjusted it last night. It casts a narrow beam, as other viewers have stated. Rather than a flood, this is a circular spot. br>I measured the beam width, which is 38 degrees horizontally and vertically. br>So you can figure out how much coverage you'll need to see if this light is right for you. (I used a transit, but if you stand at the mounting location and check your coverage at 38 degrees, you can get a good approximation with a simple drawing protractor. ) )br>It has a long range, thanks to the concentrated beam width and, of course, the large number of LEDs. br>My security camera's view has changed to a round spot in the middle of the screen, with about half of it dark. Even though a brighter center will remain, I will most likely add a second, broad beam, light to fill in the gaps. br>It completely covers the intended target (my pole barn where my equipment is stored), but I'd like it to cover a larger area, which is why the second light is being added. I'd like the foreground to be illuminated as well, so I can keep the wild hogs out of the yard. br>The light hitting my pole barn (175 feet away) is very bright, so I expect it to perform fairly well at the greater stated distances. br>br>I hope this information aids you in making your decision. br>br>Continue reading: br>If you want this light to cover a larger area, buy a cheap florescent fixture diffuser panel (approx. $2/$4), cut a square the same size as the existing lens, and replace it. If you mount it with the knobbeldy side facing out, the pattern will be significantly wider.
