Questions & Answers

Can you tell me if this is ?

This is not a 2-day event The frequency band used by the radio is different than that of the This is. GMRS radios are permitted by law to be operated with an FCC license -- this is required by law. You don't need much effort to obtain a license. This license costs $70 for you and your immediate family and is valid for 10 years. This comes to an average of $7 dollars per Applicants do not have to take a test, they simply register online and submit their fees. My work was approved the following Monday since I completed it on a Saturday night.

Is it necessary to obtain a license before using ?

Yes, I understand. To transmit on this radio, you need a GMRS license. You can get a license for 70 dollars for ten years. To buy from FCC, you need to contact them. As this is not a HAM radio, you will not be able to use one with a HAM license.

How does this work with WalkerTale?

The radio channel "family talk" is compatible with this device.

Do you know what the DBI is for ?

This is good

Despite the overpriced nature of this restaurant, it is still In any case, $150 seems to be a bit pricey for a 15w almost-featureless radio (at least from the ham My first impression was pretty good when I opened it up

The construction feels solid and the product is well constructed. I soon realized there were a couple of flaws with it after using it for awhile. It is important to note that the speaker that comes with the receiver is rather poor in quality. Then I figured I'd just take it to the remote speaker mic. I finally got it to open after spending an hour trying to figure out how to do it. It is equipped with only one speaker! You can tell it's hefty because they dropped a chunk of lead into the space for the speaker and equipped it with a foam block. There is a sense of injustice to me. Is there any use for using a speakermic housing other than to deceive others? It is possible to make a housing that is 95% smaller, because that is all the space that is being used. In any case, I feel that the price of this radio should be about half that.

I love this little guy so much That's the way! In the beginning, I bought one of these radios to make instant communication between my parents' property and where I camp at the Grand Canyon Caverns easier

It is difficult for people to get cell service in that rural part of There were already a pair of Midland X-39s back then You would be able to connect this radio to talkers. There are two campgrounds within a mile of one another. The distance as the crow flies from my parents' house is 6 miles. There is a lot of scrub oak through the hilly terrain. Only if they drove to the top of their hill, which is about 75 yards away from where they live, could I hear them. Although the staticky image was difficult to make out, I could still It was clear to them that I had been talking. I went back for a second radio, and I had no idea how good they would be. Five or five of us were able to communicate just east of Peach Springs, Arizona. There are about 9,000,000 in the world. From their home, they are 5 miles away as the crow flies. As I got closer to the top of a large hill just before the turnoff to Nelson Plant, I encountered one small dead spot, but I returned to 5x5 after getting around In this dead zone, there was less than 100 yards to cover. After I arrived at my campsite, I actually hooked up my radio and antenna inside my travel trailer, and we were both transmitting to each other as if we were standing right next to each other. I'll be testing a couple of the 6db gain that comes with these radios, and I can't wait to see how they do. Please note that to operate on GMRS frequencies, you need to obtain a license from the FCC, which I have. The license was a one time cost of $70 and covered my entire family for 10 years. On an annual basis, that amounts to about $7. Be careful not to break the bank. In my youth, I was a huge The days of watching the Dukes boys elude Sheriff Rosco P. using way radios in my youth are fond memories for me. Officer Coltrane uses them to hinder the bad guys. Officers Baker and Poncherello use them to foil the bad guys' This is why I felt like Ralphie looking out from the window at Higbee's in the movie Ralphie! br>Let's start out with the basics they come with all the basics. It includes an antenna, mounting hardware, a power supply, a radio, and a microphone. Wow, I have a Cobra 29 NW ST that spent the first part of the year in its original packaging, like 19 years ago. I have never taken the time to have it installed because I couldn't find the right antenna setup for my needs and couldn't find someone to show me These little guys took care of all that guesswork. They connect to my existing walkie talkies on GMRS frequencies, too, which means they work with my FRS/GMRS walkie talkies as well.

This was bought for low cost mobile to base application

It has short range and poor audio quality. Poor customer support. Line of sight can be reached at a range of 2 miles without extreme breakup. Use an antenna with a 6db gain on the roof of your After identifying the known issue with my receive gain, I went to my local Midwest Radio office to repair it. As far as I'm aware, this is where they supposedly fixed the issue by simply removing the weather radio option to increase the receive gains. It did not seem to make a I was also told that I would receive a replacement unit when the new models are released in the fall of 2018. At their NKC location, I was told that I would be able to purchase new ones if I returned to request the exchange. There seems to be more at stake than they first A great deal of lip service is given to customer service but there is a lack of The zoom range and clarity of my ICOM 4W handhelds have been increased two to ten times. It was the first Time that I purchased a Midland UHF radio. The reason professionals use Motorola, ICOM, and Kenwood may be due to their quality. You can buy these cheaply made items if all you plan to use them for is to give your children a chance to learn. I think Midland needs to stick with their 27 MHz CBs, which they seem to have worked out over the past 30 years, instead of trying to figure out the UHF frequencies.

5/5

This is one of the units I have installed in my car for communication while out 4 wheeling, or just having fun After using CB radios for years, I would like to switch to something that was a bit more dependable. It is truly amazing how well this little radio works and the range it has. I have been able to transmit for about a mile and a half to two miles with the stock antenna in heavily populated suburban areas, and for less than a mile in the city (this was transmitting to a smaller midland handheld). I have been able to get clear transmissions even when travelling town to town using it in open areas. During the recent upgrade of my antenna, I upgraded to a midlands 6db gain antenna, which is highly recommended. The antenna has yet to reach its maximum range I've managed to get almost 6 miles across heavily developed areas, and this is to small handheld devices. The boost I assume it will have in the city has yet to be tested, but I assume it is the same. The overall impression I have from this little device is that it is a nice little radio at a great price. I will be interested in seeing how midlands' more powerful devices perform, seeing how well this unit performs. For anyone who needs simple, reliable communications over very close to medium distances, this device is a great choice.

Building 3 Available as a built-in feature

An attenuator that reduces the sound by 4 dB! This little radio is really nice. A feature I did not expect Having a "privacy tone" applies to both transmitting and receiving. If you only want to speak to members of a restricted group, you're welcome to do so. On the other hand, a community repeater, where every family receives its own CTCSS tone, may not be able to do so. The only people I can hear are my own family members unless I put the radio into monitor mode, which turns on If I turn it off, then I can hear others, however the open squelch drives me crazy. Among the features on the unit was a nice mag holder An excellent mounting system for antennas, even at freeway speeds. One downside is that the cable is very thin and made of RG-59 A score of 3 was achieved out of 174. My signal loss is 4 dB both on transmit and receive. To rectify the situation, I am getting a new antenna with 10' LMR240 coax, which will have only a 0 dB loss. The signal is reduced by 5 dB.
