Radio operator of 53 years who is a ham and commercial radio operator
5/5

Over the course of 53 years, I have been a ham radio and a commercial 1st class radiotelephone operator (now a lifetime general radiotelephone operator). The quality is much better than when I used to buy them from Motorola or solder them My only caution would be to not exceed 500 Mhz, since the PL-65 is incredibly sensitive to speeds over this range There is no need to cut off 259 for that type of usage, so why was it cut You should buy one that has a right connector and is rated for 900V There is also 1200 Mhz, if that is what you need. This would be ideal for HAMs MAILING LAND MOBILE FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSES- Finally, I would like to add a thought You can add a 3/4" finder washer inside the cab to strengthen the roof when mounting in the roof center through sheet metal. It turned out that there were 1-inch fender washers in the package Five eighths of an inch outside diameter. A step drill worked great for drilling out the center hole and it came together just fine. I have a fender washer backing made from that thin sheet metal that auto manufacturers use these days. Recommendations - I recommend buying.

I had no problems with the cable at all
5/5

A lot of people have used this to fit a 3/4" hole but it isn't the right size. The brass ring has to be removed first, then you will need to insert the cable (not the base) into the hole, then place the base in the hole and set it into Worked like a charm if you did it this way. So far, I have used it for the fender of my truck, and it has worked well.

Cable of good quality
5/5

It seems to be an excellent cable and connectors, with a decent length, but I would be very careful if you are drilling the roof panel of your car. You might need to drill a practice hole in a scrap piece of metal first in order to see if you can drill the right sized hole. The tabs that are intended to contact the underside are a bit short. Some hole saw bits will make the hole wider than intended. I wish you all the best!.

Ok, but you could make it better if you had more money
4/5

Mounting an NMO is a good idea. Despite the low signal strength, I receive and send good data. Note that the cable is RG58A/U. Rg58u is a little bit lossier than this. We are dealing with the most lossy coax here. It's not that big of a deal for a short run. When you need to squeeze every last watt out of your antenna, you ought to opt for the RG58u or even RG8U.

I like the product, but would like to see better installation As I was driving in brush, a branch struck the base of my 20-year old one and snapped it off
4/5

Thank goodness I still had these available, as I would have had to replace the entire thing otherwise. It is fantastic that these antennas have such a wide range! The only reason I gave it 4 stars was the lack of instructions. In its reviews, the gentleman who posted a step-by-step guide on how to do it shared after reading negative reviews about these products. More than the product, there was a problem with the installation. Note that the makers should take this into account!.

I am amazed by how thin the NMO section is
3/5

I'm too short to do this. I am amazed by how thin the NMO section is. When running through a 1/8" mounting hole, a couple of inches short of tying up my antenna fully. It was necessary to solder a wire extension to the center pin of the As for coaxial cable, it is also inexpensive.

That's all right
4/5

After sitting on my desk for two years, I was finally able to accomplish this. Finished it, after shearing off a firestik 2 meter antenna that was 4 feet long. That's a story for another time. Drilled the 3/4 inch hole through the roof (and almost puked on myself. key to this one if you get the trick right. As I discovered from experience, you have to feed the connector side in first (at least I did). I also had to tighten it twice to get the o ring to sit on the roof line and not have a gap, which finally worked. TRAM antennas are one of the best options for matching this unit. A matched set with a SWR of 1 was considered matched. As I went up the scale, I did get lower as I went down. In the future, I would definitely purchase this item.

The mount turned out well There were a few threads that needed a little attention
4/5

This software seems to work well, even if when the first version of the software was installed, only one of the three was plug-and-play. In the other two cases, the covers or antennas would not attach without assistance. It took me a little time to resolve the thread issue, but later I used plumbers sanding paper (or whatever it is called) to smooth things out. I was able to use any antenna or cap after taking off an unmeasurable amount of thread depth. The nuts might have been stale, but overall I'm glad I chose this company, especially with the reasonable cost and easy fix to what could have been regarded as.
