  The sound quality won't be up to par with what you'll find today, but keep in mind that this was the quality of cassette tapes at the time. I've been using the player to play some old German tapes, and it hasn't failed me yet. It pleases me a great deal. You have the option of plugging it in or using two AA batteries. You have the option of wearing headphones or not, which is also a nice feature. I'll convert these tapes to CD as soon as possible using Audacity.

  This tape player is very cute. Finally, I'll be able to listen to my taped books! It also has an FM/AM radio, which picks up FM crystal clear but not AM. It occasionally warps the sound on tapes, but this is tolerable. If you don't know how to properly insert and remove the tape from the player, it could be difficult. It's a tricky task because of the lip on the lid. It includes a pair of inexpensive headphones, which is a nice bonus.

Alvin and the Chipmunks is one of my favorite cartoons. I decided to give the USB option a try, which was even faster at playing cassettes! I even tried using slightly used batteries in the hopes of making the motor spin a little slower, but it sounded just as bad as it did with new batteries! Make sure you don't throw your money away.

For my grandchild, I wanted to use cassette tapes with read-along books. It's a great way to bring these books and songs back to life, and it's also great for taking with you in the stroller. The speaker is of good quality and does not distort sound or words when used with a micro USB cord, and it works best and lasts the longest. For that private listening, ear buds are fine. I intend to purchase a second one for my other grandchildren. For the money, this is the best deal available.

To get the kind of high-quality portable cassette players that were once common, you'd have to spend hundreds of dollars or find a good deal on eBay. In the grand scheme of things, this is a fantastic offer. This was purchased so that I could work in the studio with cassettes. In the music production process, I do tape looping and use cassette players for a variety of purposes. This is exactly what I was looking for: something inexpensive that I could modify without fear of breaking it. br>br>This cassette player and radio combo is perfectly adequate. The internal speaker isn't very good, which adds to its charm. There's an audible electronic sound that only appears when you record from the radio, and the internal motor noise somehow ends up in the background of whatever you record, but that's all part of the fun. Now, if you just want to listen to a tape or record some notes or something, these issues are unlikely to bother you; in fact, half of the population will not notice; however, I will notice because I know what to look for and what makes a difference when recording music. br>br>The ability to open up the player and add a potentiometer to control the motor speed was the most important feature for me. It was incredibly easy to set up, and now I can play tapes at any speed I want. It's very simple to open the player to access the guts, and you don't even need to remove the cassette door. The cover comes off with four small screws from the back. Then you connect the red wire to one end of your potentiometer and then connect another wire from the pot to where you previously removed the red wire, which is a very small and quick soldering job. Before soldering, I used DuPont wires to make sure everything was in place. It's a very simple procedure, and some people have done more complicated modifications to this specific model of cassette player.

It does a good job of picking up the radio. I think the cassettes on batteries are just a little draggy (the cassettes are old). When powered by USB (not included) through a computer, it appears to be faster. I'm going to buy another for my mother because it's better than some of the ones advertised on Ebay and Walmart. Oh, and it's supposed to record, but I don't have any blank cassettes with which to test it.
