Questions & Answers

What right does anyone have to call us? Is there a dedicated phone number for it? Please assist me in gaining a better understanding of how it works. I'm just curious as to how an incoming call is handled. ?

The phone simply rings as if it were a regular land line; simply obtain a phone number/account from www. google. I believe a number can be transferred for $25 at com/voice. Use a cat 5 cable to connect the OBi to the router. Connect a phone to the Obi and take the call. After that, the directions are straightforward. You must also go to the obitalk website and sign in with your Google account. It can be used to feed a single phone or multiple phones throughout the house. If you feed the house, I believe the Obi recommends the 110, but I was able to get by with the 100 because I didn't have any old-style phones that would require more power. Voice mail, call forwarding, and voice mail to text are all included in the free phone service. You can even look up phone numbers based on their letter designations. Best wishes to you.

Do you want to go global?

Everything should be fine. The catch is that you can only call internationally if your VoIP number provider permits it, which may incur a fee. If you're an international user, it should work as long as you have enough internet bandwidth and open ports. Then you'd have a phone that works in the United States while you're away from home. If the relay is done through the United States, I don't believe OBi has any international servers to support.

Is it recommended that the green and red feeds from the telephone pole be disconnected after installing the OBI100? For my fax machine, I only need one house jack.?

Disconnect from the telephone company's outside wiring, without a doubt. After that, you can distribute the OBi100 signal throughout the house using the house phone jack wiring.

Obihai was one of my favorite characters when I was younger
3/5

That is no longer the case. Update: Thanks to our users, we now have access to the latest firmware that they keep hidden from us. Google Voice is back up and running after downloading and manually updating my Obihai100: OBi110-fw DOT obihai DOT com/OBi110-fw DOT obihai DOT com/OBi110-fw DOT obihai DOT com I used to adore Obihai (2886 DOT fwbr>br>I used to adore Obihai (2886 DOT fwbr>br>I used to adore Obihai That is no longer the case. I couldn't make or receive a phone call with my Google Voice today, and it turns out that you have to pay $10 to get the latest firmware.

AT&T's monthly phone bills will no longer be received
5/5

I was fed up with paying $35 per month for home phone service when my wife and I both had cell phones. But I still wanted a home number, because many of my family and friends still used it, and it was also the number we used for all of our bills - I began looking for alternatives when I discovered the ObiTalk devices. It seemed too good to be true at first, but I was pleasantly surprised. br>br>One thing to keep in mind is that you can keep your current phone number if you want to, but you may have to jump through some hoops in order to do so. I had to change my home phone number to a T-mobile number. I had some issues because my AT&T prepaid phone was not compatible with Google Voice, so I had to port it from there. Their U-number was T. The number could not be ported to T-Mobile because of the Verse service. I had to convert the U-shaped U-shaped U-shaped U-shaped U-shaped U-shaped U- First, convert your Verse phone account to a regular analog phone number account. T was actually quite helpful in handling this, though it did lengthen the time it took to transfer everything. Once it had been placed on the T-shirt, Preparing for a trip by mobile It was very simple to switch from a paid account to Google Voice. br>br>Call quality has been excellent, even when my children are playing online video games or watching streaming video. br>br>Another thing to keep in mind is that Google Voice does not have an E911 service, but Obihai has some built-in options to handle this. Through one of their partners, I was able to obtain E911 service for $12 for a full year. Finally, caller-id is unavailable due to a Google Voice limitation rather than the device itself. There is no name on the ID; it is only a number. For us, this hasn't been a problem, but it may be for others. br>br>Overall, I'm happy with this device and would recommend it to others.

I bought a few of these devices for my vacation homes, but their website misleads me about the $10 support fee
4/5

However, when I attempted to change my password, it became unusable. It took me a while to figure out why it stopped working after I changed my password on my Obi device, because Obi wants an extra $10 annual support fee for old devices that want to change their Google Voice password. The reason I need to change my Google voice password is that "Google mail" detects that I log in via my PC, and my Google voice phone is located at a different location. I was forced to change my password by Google Mail in order to avoid security bleach, which I believe they overdid. If I want to change my password, I will do so; why should Google force users to do so? Alternatively, the Obi 100 device will be unable to access "Google Voice. " So, if you buy this device, it will only work for a year, and if you want to change anything, you will have to pay a $10 fee, which Obi never mentioned. You don't even require their technical assistance; you simply want to make the necessary changes on your own. BUY IT IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. Alternatively, unless you pay an additional $10 per year, this device will only last a year. It's possible that the price will rise to $20 in the following year. When I get a printer, I'll let you know. The different OS driver upgrades are always provided free of charge by the manufacturer. Obi requires payment in order for their device to function. br>NOTE: THIS PAGE HAS BEEN UPDATED. br>After doing some research on Obi firmware upgrades, I discovered that you can get the free firmware [. and update your Obi device manually after logging into the Obitalk portal (system management - Updates to the device). br>I can create/set up my new Google Voice password after a free firmware upgrade, which I shared with everyone who had an issue with it. br>As a result, I changed my rating from one to four stars, rather than five, because Obi has not stated how to upgrade firmware for free. It was the real source of my issue.

This review is for the OBi100 VoIP Telephone Adapter and Voice Service Bridge, which is advertised and sold on the Amazon website
4/5

br>br>Update 8/16/2016br>I've had continued excellent experience with this device paired with Google Voice, but it was recently blocked from Google Voice service. A voice message on the home phone informed me to login to my account, and I discovered I needed to update the OBi100. It was simple to upgrade, and service was quickly restored.

- Since Google Voice is now officially supported, I believe this product is worth considering. br>Original review belowbr> The combination of Google Voice and this device provides phone service that is very similar to that of a traditional land line, but without the need for a monthly subscription fee. br>br>Configuration is a little intimidating, but it worked perfectly with the Google Voice account (which you should set up beforehand). You create an account on the obitalk website and then follow the instructions to register your device and connect it to your Google Voice account. Despite the fact that this isn't a particularly difficult task, I believe it should be left to someone with technical knowledge. br>br>A cordless phone (which you must buy separately) is used in most installations. You use the cordless phones in your house after plugging the base station into the Obi device's phone jack. This is the simplest, most straightforward, and most widely supported configuration. br>br>The Obi device can also be used to power your existing home telephone wiring. This is something I bring up because this is a common query. This enables you, for example, to use existing wired phones in multiple locations throughout your home. If you're going to do this, here are some things to think about:
- The phone company's connection to your home wiring must be disconnected. Unplugging a connection in the demarcation box, which is usually located outside the residence in a plastic box in a modern home, is a simple way to accomplish this. This is a critical step in the process.
- Turn off the ringers on all phones that are plugged into home phone jacks, limiting the number of devices to five. To be more specific, the Obi device can hold up to 5 "REN" (Ringer Equivalence Number). A REN of 1 is found in most modern phones. As a result, the Obi could theoretically support a maximum of five people. The REN value is printed on the bottom of most modern phones. br>- Because all of the jacks in a typical house are connected, you can plug the Obi into any of them. There are some limitations to using Google Voice and Obi together: br>br>
- There is no emergency service (i. e. , there is no 911). In addition to the Google Voice service, you can purchase a 911 subscription from another provider and set it up on the Obi. br>- During a power outage, there will be no service. Most wired (not cordless) phones are powered directly from the telephone company office by traditional land line phone service; however, during a power outage, neither the Obi box nor a typical cordless phone will provide service. To keep your Obi, cordless phone, and Internet Provider device (cable modem or other) operational during power outages, you'll need to purchase and maintain a battery backup (UPS).
- In the event that problems arise, you are in charge of troubleshooting. For someone who is technically savvy, this isn't a major problem. Having said that, this has proven to be dependable so far, with no issues with service.
