Selected User Reviews For Alpine SPS-M601W Marine 6-1/2" Speaker (White)
I bought these for my boat in November of 2018, almost two years ago. I looked into the measurements, the power handling, and everything else. I'm a big fan of Alpine, but the cloth-impregnated surround turned me off a little. I prefer long-lasting rubber. But here I am, almost two years later, and they sound just as good as they did on day one, and they're still thumping! My current system is a Fusion MS-DOS. I can't say enough good things about the RA70 head! In a 30 ft Baja MY290, it provides adequate power to the interior speakers. Outside sub and two Alpines are powered by a Clarion 4-channel amp. The two Alpine speakers, as well as the subwoofer, are now powered by an older amplifier. Power from a bygone era! The Alpines have been exposed to the elements as well as my usual washing. They haven't changed their sound, and it's still fantastic. br>br>I'm a huge fan of Alpine and whatever they put in the cloth woofer surrounds! This is the speaker to get if you want a great sounding speaker that won't break the bank and will last a few seasons. Now, don't get me wrong, I didn't slam it with two 2000-watt amps! A vintage Clarion 4 channel true amp with 50 watts per channel! br>br>If you just want to upgrade your new boat's speakers or turn them up a notch, these are the speakers for you! I still enjoy them after two years with no crackling.
The Clarions CM1602s were the Doral's original rear speakers. My cutout hole was exactly 5" in diameter. These were phased out in favor of the CM1622 and others. According to the specifications, the new models needed a 5. With a little more time, study, effort, and money, I could have made 25 cutouts. After a period of time, When I was looking for speakers with a 5" cutout on the internet, I came across these Alpine Marine SPS-05 speakers. M601W. The four screw holes matched the old Clarions perfectly, and the 5" hole I already had was sufficient. Everything fit together perfectly, so installation was a breeze.
NOTE: According to the box and specifications, the product is a 5. It is necessary to drill a 1" cutout hole. I'm here to tell you that all you needed was 5" of space. The purchase, sound, and fit are all excellent.
Three of my four stock speakers went out after one summer. Naturally, I wanted to upgrade from Kicker/Jensen/etc. to something better. br>br>I chose these because their RMS handling was very similar to the RMS handling of my new head unit (Aquatic AV GP1 Gauge Size Waterproof Marine Stereo). This is a fantastic unit that is a significant improvement over the Jensen stock unit. br>br>These speakers have great bass and are more than adequate without an amp, etc. If they don't last two summers, I'll update and lower the stars.
PROS:
- Highs that are clear and crisp.
CONS:
- The bass is adequate, but not particularly powerful.
- The holes don't line up as they should because the size is a little smaller than expected, probably by an eighth of an inch.
It is not capable of handling the power of the Clarion Radio, which I have installed on my boat. I don't have an amplifier, and the power is still too much for it.
These sound fantastic and would be a perfect fit for my boat. Make certain you are aware of the size of the cutout.
The deck is a Kenwood kmr-series. 612bt. In addition, I have four Pioneer Champion 10" subs. 85cu. A boss 3500 riot amp was used to power the boxes. It astounds people for such a low-cost construction. The total cost of the system was under 1500 dollars.
With low power, it sounds fantastic.
