Questions & Answers
Because the AP44 is connected via NMEA 2000, the type of Autopilot Computer you have will determine whether or not this new unit will work. Although the AP44 and AP11 are similar in size, the AP44 does not perfectly line up with the AP11 cutout/mounting screw holes.
This isn't the entire Simrad autopilot system; it's just one part of it. It's completely incompatible with what you've got.
This isn't possible. You'll need to look for used or old stock of the controller you're looking for.
This was just installed after I bought it. I bought a Simrad Auto Pilot from them and it turned out to be defective. They sent me all but 20%. I'm unable to get a response from them. When they do, they must speak with someone higher up about the difference in order to receive a refund. I'm fed up with being kept waiting! They should refund the entire amount if it is out of your control.
On my Grand Banks trawler, it works flawlessly right out of the box. I have a 36 Grand Banks and have added the AP44 to it with the NEC- two computers The unit didn't need to be tweaked during commissioning, and it steers the boat flawlessly in all conditions. Make certain you have the NEC- 2 computers should be used, and the setup should be carefully followed. I'm putting together an op-ed piece right now. In addition, there are 12 units on the bridge. The unit connects to a notor drive with a chain drive that hooks into the wire run system that was already installed on the boat.
It works great, and hopefully the display will last longer than the AP22 and AP24.
It's fantastic to be able to change your course with a small knob.
