My subwoofer has been working flawlessly for more than two years and it has auto on and off. The time it takes for a bass signal to reach the device is very short.
An AV receiver from Denon is being used by me. In order to set up the Audessey sound set up this sub is connected. There is nothing I would rather have done differently. Whether you're listening to music or movie tracks, this sub is excellent. You can knock pictures off the wall elsewhere if that is what you want. The bass is good when this subwoofer is set up correctly.

It doesn't knock as hard as the Polk does, but I am not unhappy with it.
