Questions & Answers

Is this device capable of virtualizing surround sound over headphones, or is it just a stereo downmix?

It functions as both a decoder and a stereo downmixer. There are a variety of phantom binaural processes, but they all sound like crud to me and must be tuned to your specific speaker/headphone setup.

As a result, your optical-communications-related Is the coaxial port for audio only, rather than video? I'd like to extract audio from a tivo edge and send it to rca l and r for headphones. ?

In a nutshell, this is an audio converter rather than a video converter. It has an L/R RCA output as well as a headphone output. The volume output of your headphones will be determined by the headphones you use. The audio signal can be sent to a receiver with a headphone output using the RCA output jacks, however. It's more of a lead-up to the main event. amp. It has excellent audio quality. If you have any further inquiries, please do not hesitate to contact us. It does exactly what it claims to do.

A High-Quality Device (that only requires a few minor aesthetic tweaks to be perfect)
4/5

This is an excellent, well-built device that performs admirably in its primary function. It converts a wide range of codecs and resolutions into beautifully clean and artifact-free analog audio. However, it falls short of a 5-star rating due to a few aesthetic flaws. a rating of five stars 1) The brushed aluminum case is smooth and rounded off, and the volume knob has a firm and positive resistance when in use. The unit has the appearance and feel of a high-end product. However, due to the small size of the unit, When you use the volume/level knob, it just slides around the table. Yes, this is a low-cost item, but the solution to this problem could be solved quickly and inexpensively by including some stick-on rubber feet. 2) The owner's manual advises turning the unit off when not in use, but there is no power switch! The fact that they provide you with a nice volume/level knob but don't include a simple 'click-on' switch is disappointing. I'm perplexed by the 'on/off' position at the turn's base. You can either physically disconnect the micro-controller from the unit to turn it off, or you can use the power button to turn it off. It can either be connected to a USB port or plugged into a switched AC power strip via a wall outlet. USB phone charger plug with a wart type. Again, this isn't a big deal, but it irritates me that they want you to turn it off but don't provide an easy way to do so without having to pull cables or use extra hardware. 3) Super-super-super-super-super-super-super-super-super-super-super-super-super-super-super The power LED indicator is a bright red color. It's just a riot of color! It's Hal 9000 bright here. And why? To avoid the glaring 'Eye of Sauron' effect (see picture), I have to conceal the unit behind my wireless headphone stand. br>br>4) This one is more of a nit-picking exercise. pik. I like that there are two analog outputs available (3. 5 mm in the front Out back, there are RCA phono jacks). When a volume knob is present on this type of device, one output is usually fixed line-level, while the other is variable and controlled by the volume/level knob. The volume knob on the Neoteck, on the other hand, controls the level of both outputs; while this may be advantageous to some, it may cause issues with certain use cases and desktop audio configurations for others. br>br>5) Finally, and this is more of a wish for future inclusion than a criticism of the unit as it currently exists, It's nice that they provide two digital audio paths, one via Coax and the other via Optical. Why not add a third? After all, the device's main selling point is its ability to decode multiple formats. channel home theater content, as well as the standard 2-channel content Why not give it a mini-makeover with stereo codecs? A USB port or an HDMI port are both acceptable options. C 3. Adding this type of input would almost certainly increase the cost, but it would be a welcome addition for many people.

Excellent DAC that does not necessitate the use of PCM audio on the television
5/5

I tried a couple of other similar units, but they all required me to set my TV to PCM in order to use headphones, then back to Dolby in order to get full quality sound from my Yamaha YAS-2000. Sound bar model 207. This unit allows one person to listen to good sound from the sound bar while another listens to music through headphones. By connecting my Sennheiser RS180 wireless transmitter to the DAC's headphone jack (which has a built-in volume control), I can listen to my headphones while still providing excellent speaker sound to the rest of the room. br>br>One minor flaw is the extremely bright red power LED. This is completely pointless. I punched a tiny hole in a piece of black electrical tape and covered the light with it, leaving only a tiny pinprick of red light to indicate that power is on. br>br>This is a fantastic unit. Particularly given the low cost.

Basic Dolby digital audio is correctly decoded
4/5

a few problems have been solved Used to connect TV output to a wireless streaming transmitter that didn't support Dolby (didn't need Dolby output for separate 5. 1 speaker connected to a single optical output jack on the TV). Basic Dolby audio is decoded correctly and sound quality is acceptable. The first time I connected the USB power block to the same power block as the streaming device, I got a lot of AC hum. Using a separate power supply, I was able to solve this issue. The volume knob on this unit controlled the output to the streamer via RCA line out jacks, but the volume was WAY too low to be usable, despite the fact that the streamer unit's amplification/volume control was set to maximum. Non-electronic devices were used to conduct the tests. This unit's headphone jack could accommodate amplified headphones, and the volume was adequate; it was controlled by the same volume knob as the RCA output, but it was significantly louder. Thankfully, the streamer unit also accepts stereo input from compatible mini-jack devices. connect the output from the headphone jack to the mini-jack The streamer received a good level of volume from the plug input. If you connect the RCA output to a powerful amplifier as "line in," it should work. Between this unit and the 5, there is still a minor audio sync issue. Despite the fact that this device only has one speaker array, it cannot be faulted because it has five. With one speaker muted, this device can be properly synced to the video feed by adjusting the TV lip sync settings.

It does exactly what it says it will, and it decodes five different languages
5/5

1 audio track in stereo The problem I'm having is that my television produces 5. When Amazon Prime is on, there is only one audio track available. I can switch to stereo on Netflix. Only an optical cable serves as a source of output. br>br>After that, my receiver will be able to receive optical signals - sort of. It's not a problem with the main receiver. I have a two-room setup with a single receiver and two separate inputs. Because the main room is a theater, there are a total of five seats available. The first room is adequate, while the second room is equipped with speakers and headphones. Only analog signals are accepted in Room 2. and it isn't possible to have a digital version. br>br>While most of these do an excellent job of converting optical digital to analog audio, they do not decode the 5. 1 - It's received via the RCA L/R connections. This one accomplishes both. br>br> The ability to adjust the volume is a nice bonus. Separately, the three are larger. Along with the RCA L/R, there's a 1mm headphone output. As a result, this one appeals to me greatly.

It has a lot of features and works well for a while, but it can break down after a short period of time
3/5

The case is of exceptional quality and configuration, with all connections on the back. It worked perfectly the first time I used it. The first unit I purchased lasted three days (roughly six hours of use total) before the volume level dropped to a low level and became unusable. The second unit worked in the same way, but only for about an hour. The issue has been brought up by other reviewers. This is connected to my TV via a coax cable. If you use an optical connection, it might not fail. I'm going to try a different brand that doesn't have nearly as many features or as nice of an appearance. According to the Amazon reviews, all of the DACs they sell have issues with reliability.
