Questions & Answers

Is it possible to use this with a soundbar?

I couldn't get it to work with my soundbar, so either I'm missing something or it's not working.

If the number is 5, the output will be 5. Will the output be downconverted to stereo (i.e., will the output be split into two channels)? It won't just toss the surround/LFE data out the window)?

This looks like a simple stereo converter to me. It can only send out two channels at a time. If the 5. If one channel is important to you, it's time to upgrade to an amplifier with optical input. Because my new TV only has HDMI or optical ports, and my amplifier isn't compatible, I bought this.

Is it necessary for me to change the audio output on my television to PCM?

Make sure the audio source device input is set to "PCM" format, according to the manufacturer's instructions. This is suggested as a possible remedy for audio issues. Mercantile Direct LLC, thank you for your assistance.

I'm wondering if anyone knows if this will work with my new Samsung QLED 7fam and my 10-year-old Bose 3-speaker system. 1 system?

It certainly ought to. I'm using it with a 10-year-old analog Bose Cinemate system that was released a year or two after the 321 system.

However, while the product is well-made and performs admirably, it has a few flaws Avoid purchasing this for your PS4 (a workaround is provided in the edit below)
5/5

The DAC functions properly, but the PS4 refuses to provide it with a two-channel signal. Many (MANY) games require a center channel audio signal, which means if you plug this box directly into your PS4, you'll lose any game audio that lives on the center channel. br>br>It's not a problem with this product, but it is with the PS4 and any two-player game. DAC for each channel. EDIT: br>br> If your TV has optical audio out, you might be able to get away with routing PS4 audio through HDMI to the TV and then using the TV's optical audio out to the DAC. If your television is capable of combining multiple video sources, You'll get the desired result if you convert the audio from the HDMI connection to stereo and then output it to the DAC.

Make sure you do your homework
3/5

My goal was to copy the signal outputs from my "dumb" television to a "smart" television with a larger screen. I needed a way to convert the audio signal from the optical out to analog to feed into my 16 channel mixer because the smart tv doesn't have a headphone jack. Because my 'dumb' tv also had a VGA input, I could run my laptop through it into our sound system, which delivered a hefty output; my band frequently refers to videos on the tv, which is helpful during practice; and because my 'dumb' tv also had a VGA input, I could run my laptop through it into our sound system, which delivered a hefty output; The screen, on the other hand, was insufficiently large. I'm getting off track here. Because the smart tv only has optical and HDMI inputs, I couldn't use VGA to transfer the audio/video signal from my laptop; instead, I needed to use HDMI. I connected the analog RCA cables from the converter to our sound board, and the picture appeared on the television screen, but there was no sound. br>br>Please let me know if you have a solution. I'm still conducting research for the time being. I can't return it without incurring a financial loss, so I'm stuck with it.

Yes, I can now listen to music through my speakers again, Yahooooo
5/5

Yes, I can now listen to music through my speakers again, yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I have an old receiver and a new TV, and I was having trouble connecting my speaker wires so that I could listen to my surround sound, and this gadget solved the problem, so if you have an old receiver, this is the gadget you need. You'll also require a TOSLINK Braided Fiber Optic JIS F05 Male to Male Audio Cable (6 Feet) to complete your setup.

Although it works without a hitch, the volume is limited
3/5

I bought it so that I could watch TV late at night without bothering others with my gamer headset. My television only has an optical sound output. I bought it with a y cord that connects two RCA to three. 5 female. Optical cable was also purchased. On Amazon, they're like $5 each. The problem I have with it is that it only has a limited volume capability. I bought this one because I didn't want to waste my money on something shoddy from China or Japan that would fail. Check out some of the other brands. Over everything else I see here, Insignia is a well-known brand. It would be ideal if the ratio of digital to analog audio could be increased.

It does exactly what it says! This is the second Optical Digital to Analog Converter I've purchased from Ingsignia
5/5

I have a pair of Sennheiser wireless headphones with analog plugs that I use to connect to my television. I recently upgraded my television to a larger, newer model, but it did not include the analog ports that my previous set did! This converter was connected to the TV's optical port, and then the analog plugs from the headphone base were plugged in, and it worked perfectly! This was a lot less expensive than buying new headphones! One thing to keep in mind: if you do this setup, you will need an Optical Cable to connect the Converter to the TV.

It really works
5/5

I needed to connect a new television to an old receiver. This converter was able to achieve the desired result. It's simple to set up and use, and it does a fantastic job. The RCA cable that came with it was a nice touch. I connected the power supply to the receiver and turned it on only when it was needed.

It's perfect for the new Samsung
5/5

It works perfectly, but please read the instructions if you have a Samsung. To work, your television must be set to a specific output mode. It's perfect now that I've figured it out.

After eight months, the unit failed
3/5

I purchased this unit in May of 2020, and it failed in December of that year. It was not going to be replaced because the seller refused to do so. I purchased another unit from a different seller, and it works perfectly. 'On the first unit,' says the narrator.
