Whoo- hoo! Use my speakers if you want! My Sony Bravia television gave up the ghost
5/5

It was used in conjunction with a Bose 3-speaker system. 1 II, which has never been found on the surface of the planet When I got my new tv, I called Bose and was told that the only thing I could do was trade it in for a discount on a newer model with newer tv inputs. Aargh! $1500? I'm aware that there are less expensive options, but I'm happy with the sound I have now. What if something goes wrong and the rest of the system is rendered useless? To be honest, that's why I don't upgrade my tech stuff as often as I should because it's just a chain reaction, and I'm annoyed at being "forced" into buying new things when I already have something that works and I'm perfectly happy with. Not to mention the fact that I had my shelving customized to work with the Bose system. In my chain reaction, that brings me to number three. So I kept looking and eventually came across a Tech Steve video that featured this small creature. It was worth a shot, I figured! I already had the red/white cables and wasn't sure if I'd require anything else. When I first got it out, I wasn't sure which source to use, but I figured "tv" would be the best option. However, there is no audio. After all, I figured I'd have to put that little JBL outfit to the test, but - I kept fiddling around until I switched the device to "toslink" and bam - it worked. business is booming! I have no idea what that means; all I care about is that it works. I also use my Bose remote because it still works and has a timer that I like. Because it's new, I can't comment on how things are going, but so far, so good! I'm still able to use my ridiculously expensive Bose headphones, and I'm perfectly content with that! It's odd to have a nice television picture but terrible television sound. The two are incompatible. Even at maximum television volume, I could barely hear it, and the sound was deplorable. It's beyond deplorable. br>Unless you already know what to do with it, the little pamphlet won't be of much use to you. And I have no idea what to compare it to, but if you already have speakers, it's likely you won't need any other cables than the ones that come with this.

Finally, a low-cost option appears to be appealing
5/5

This one appears to be good, based on my previous experience with an inexpensive DAC for my Smart TV. The Toslink feed sounds better than its modest price, and the remote is a welcome change from the alts I've purchased in the past; it has a mute button for the commercial crappola, and the Toslink feed sounds better than its modest price. br>br>The Toslink feed works quite well while the HDMI feeds my soundbar. That way, all I have to do is turn the soundbar down to zero, turn on this little DAC, and put on my headphones. The audio quality is good, and the volume control is adequate. The HDMI cable now has the ability to deliver a higher level of audio, but I don't require it. I have a 1k DAC for my separate music needs, and I don't pay attention to the audio when I'm watching TV. This teeny-tiny guy is a hard worker. I'm hoping I'll be able to use it for at least a couple of years. One final point to consider: At the very least, the type on the top is small, unobtrusive, and gray in color. To put it another way, it's low-key, rather than the usual visually vulgar and clumsy.

The remote will not work if you are more than 4 feet away from the device
3/5

This converter appealed to me because it included a volume-controlling remote. If you're within 4 feet of the remote, it'll work perfectly. Almost completely obviating the need for it - Who uses a remote that is closer than 4 feet away from a device? This effectively negates the following benefits: It is capable of flawlessly converting an optical signal to analog. It's convenient that it runs on USB power. All I want is for the remote to work properly.

It's quite effective

With the help of a 25' Toslink cable, I was able to add remote headphones to an old Samsung TV. The volume control on the headphones is excellent and 100% independent of the TV speaker volume. While everything worked fine when I was watching TV and using the cable box, there were a few times when I couldn't get sound from some (. mkv, . When using the built-in Samsung TV media/video player, you can play mp4) videos from a USB stick. It turned out, however, that there was an issue with the television. Everything worked perfectly fine when I used a TIVO or an old WD Media Player. This is a fantastic product.

A useful device for TVs that don't have standard audio outputs
5/5

A Samsung smart TV is required to use this device. The audio volume cannot be controlled with the Samsung TV remote, so the remote control feature is essential.

This is a fantastic kit! It's also ideal for connecting a TV to an amplifier
4/5

It's not a bad little kit, and it's reasonably priced. It comes with a lot of cables, including a digital optical cable, and it's all nicely packaged. I bought this because I had a TV that was wired with an amplifier but didn't have a remote and thought this would be a good alternative, which it was and still is. This enables me to set the volume on my amplifier to a specific level and control it with this kit/remote. The reason for four stars is that the volume control isn't as smooth as it could be, and it feels like you have to hit the button several times to get it to move up or down noticeably, but it's not terrible.

With this device, I was able to control the volume of external speakers connected to a Samsung Smart TV using a remote control. I have a small amplifier connected to an external speaker jack that powers a pair of speakers, and the only way to control the volume was to turn the knob on the amp; there was no way to mute the speakers. I can control the volume and mute using the remote control that comes with this device. It works fine as long as the remote is pointed directly at the device, and I'm happy with it.

If that's what you need, the remote and volume control aren't functional
3/5

I bought this product because the analog audio output from my TV to my speakers is 'fixed,' which meant I couldn't control the volume with the TV remote when using my sound system and had to manually turn a knob on the speakers. In my search for a solution, I came across this product, which would allow me to connect the TV's digital output to this box via optical/TOSLink cable using the PCM protocol, and then connect the box's analog output to my speakers using the analog output from the box. This is what the box is designed to do, and it does it well. br>br>However, I only bought it to use its volume controls and mute function, especially with the included remote-control. This section is completely broken. On the box itself, the volume up/down/mute buttons have no effect on the output. The remote included is not the same as the one shown in the product description, and its buttons appear to be randomly mapped to pause, skip ahead/back 10 seconds, and fast forward/rewind during video playback. Because of this, I am unable to use the product and must return it.
