How Our Score Is Calculated

Product Description

NOAA Weather Scan Alert - NOAA Weather Scan will automatically scan through the seven available weather (WX) band channels for flood, tornado, thunderstorm, civil danger, and other warnings. It also tunes in to the most powerful weather channel to keep you informed of any severe weather updates. A NOAA Weather Alert will sound, indicating that severe weather hazards and emergencies are possible in your area.
S. Programming is a programming language that allows you to express yourself in a variety - The Specific Area Message Encoding automatically locks on to your county's NOAA weather radio signal and requires very little user programming. CUSTOM - Set your radio to receive weather alerts from up to 23 different counties, and only be notified when those counties are in danger.
Options for the Warning System - Choose between a 90 dB siren alarm, a voice alert, or a visual LED flasher to be alerted.
When an alert has expired, an abbreviated expiration (EXP) will be displayed on the display.
Alarm Clock - An alarm clock with a snooze button and an AM/FM radio with 6 memory channels are included in the built-in clock. Wake up to the weather, AM/FM, or buzz in your area. It switches from AM/FM to relevant all-hazard alerts automatically.

Questions & Answers

Is the backup powered by batteries?

It can be powered by batteries or the AC adapter that comes with it. The batteries will last about a month in monitoring mode without the A/C adapter before they run out. It could also listen to regular radio stations in addition to weather channels, making it useful in an emergency when the power goes out (it runs on batteries).

Is it possible to detect the end of a message? Is it set to automatically turn off after the alert has been read and the end-of-message tone has been sent?

Yes, it has an end-of-message detection feature. The fact that you can't adjust the volume of the initial tone alert that starts the message is one of my biggest gripes. Before I bought it, the manufacturer said it could be changed, and then apologized for giving me incorrect information. The volume control can be used to adjust the message's volume. That initial alert tone, on the other hand, cannot be turned off, and it is extremely loud, especially in a bedroom.

Is it true that this radio reads the warning and then turns off when the warning is red out?

The WR300 automatically switches off FIVE MINUTES after the warning has been completed. So, if you don't want to get out of bed at 2 a.m. to press the button, you'll have to listen to it blare. The WR400 is something I'm not familiar with. The Reecom R- is a device that allows you to communicate with other people via The EOM feature on the 1630 sends the audio back to standby mute as soon as the message is finished.

Is it possible to change the volume of the alarm? Is it possible to mount it on the wall?

The unit can only be mounted on the wall. In the back, there are two channels where mounted screws can be hung. The volume of the alert tone is not adjustable.br>br> The volume of the radio alarm. yes.

This is a new product that has the potential to be very good
4/5

For over 40 years, I've worked as a meteorologist. chaser of tornadoes Hurricane hunter in the Air Force. Guy who deals with extreme weather Nothing is more important to us than a reliable weather radio here in Tornado Alley. Midland has long been a source of confidence for us, and I believe we've owned a number of their consumer models. Here's a quick rundown of my new WR400, which arrived on Christmas Eve: THE GOOD. This Midland WR400 alarm clock radio has a great, sleek exterior design and should be a great alarm clock radio for the majority of people. It was claimed in some reviews that it was too bright for bedside use, but this is not the case. The menu function allows for approximately ten levels of backlight brightness, with the low settings being ideal for nighttime use. In comparison to previous models, the menu and operation are much simpler and improved. The SAME codes for your location from the weather service are pre-programmed! You can now choose which alerts you want to hear and which ones you don't. The volume control is smooth and the speaker is good. FM is getting a lot of attention. The reception on the NOAA weather radio is just as good as it was on the WR100. THE BAD. Not much. Because of electrical interference, AM reception beside the bed is always a problem and not very good. Apart from the bed, the telescoping antenna is more problematic, as it pokes into lamps and other objects, making it difficult to conceal. I purchased a Sangean ANT 100 external antenna from Amazon. THE UGLY. When this radio arrived, I had a major problem, and I was only going to give it two stars at first. I was apparently the first to notice a flaw in the FM tuner, which prevented it from going higher than 107 in the first hour of use. When OU football was on 107. 3, it was my favorite station. This radio would not tune up to 107 when it was first delivered. I sent several letters of complaint. THE RESPONSE AS WELL AS THE FINAL RATING Midland called me back about the FM tuner issue, assuring me that they had heard my concerns and that they would be working on a solution for us all. After a few months, they sent another one. The revised radio arrived, corrected the tuner defect, and has been working fine. The reception is a little weak and sensitive to positioning, which could be due to NOAA transmitter changes and issues, but that was fixed by the external antenna. At this point, the entire solution is at least four stars.

This is the one we have, and it's loud and simple enough for someone who isn't tech-savvy
5/5

Programming is a pain. We've had it for several years and I've never felt compelled to write a review. A tornado passed through our neighborhood in TX a few nights ago. Friends were irritated that their phones did not notify them of the Tornado Watch or Warning. Our phones didn't ring, but we had this weather radio, which woke us up and allowed us to hear the sirens outside; if you can't hear the sirens outside, you need one of these weather radios. The sirens are only heard by those who are OUTSIDE. They aren't intended to be used as an indoor warning device. This is the one we have, and it's loud and simple enough for someone who isn't tech-savvy. Programming is a pain. I delegate all technical matters to my husband, but I had to reprogram it when he was out of town. The instructions are included in the package and are also available online, so you can complete it even if you misplace the original.

This is a good radio station
4/5

Weather radios fascinate me, and I have quite a collection. The WR120, Wr300, HH50, and HH54VP are some of the Midland radios I own. Although we do not experience much severe weather in the Boston area, I believe it is still a good idea to have a weather radio, especially given the recent snowstorms. br> When I heard about the WR400, I knew I had to get one because I loved my WR300. On March 26, I received the WR400, which is an excellent radio. The speaker quality is noticeably better than that of the WR300, and it is extremely clear. I can also see the screen a little better because I have very low vision. This radio, on the other hand, has left me disappointed. br> The fact that the siren isn't adjustable is probably my biggest complaint about this radio. It's a lot louder than my WR120. On the WR300, I liked being able to turn it down, and I'm annoyed that this feature isn't available on this newer radio. I don't need to be jolted awake by a blizzard warning, but I do want to be aware that it is occurring. I understand that these radios are designed to be loud, especially during tornadoes, but some people may not require or desire this level of volume. I'm hoping that this will be addressed in a future software update. br> I haven't received any alerts on this radio yet, but I'm confident it will perform admirably, as my other Midlands have. Overall, this appears to be a good weather radio, but there is room for improvement. I'm giving this radio four stars because I can't give half-star ratings, but I'd give it three if I could. If I had the option, I'd give it a five-star rating. If Midland could just improve this radio, I'd give it a five-star rating.

It is not possible to opt out of receiving tornado alerts
4/5

Tornado settings include watches. This weather radio is excellent and dependable. If I could choose only to receive alerts for actual tornado warnings, I would have given it five stars. I don't want to be awoken for tornado warnings, but I do want to be awoken for the more serious warnings that require me to take cover. Tornado watches can be frequent (a few times a day for weeks) for those who aren't in tornado territory, but they rarely turn into tornadoes. A tornado warning indicates that there is actual rotation and that a tornado is either imminent or has already occurred in the area.
