Questions & Answers

Is it capable of supporting native streaming services? What are the differences between Pandora, iHeartRadio, and Spotify?

Just to get Pandora, I still have a small shuttlePC hooked up to my stereo. The Ocean Digital is essentially a direct stream device for TalkRadio/Music stations that can be accessed through their websites. WQXR (classical) or your local NPR station are two good examples. On SKYTUNE, you can find a variety of other web streaming services organized by genre. However, services such as Pandor, Spotify, and others fall into this category. For the more expensive Audio Streamers, you'll have to spend more money.

How do I add a station that isn't on the ocean digital wr- server? 10 radio?

This will be done through your computer browser (Internet Explorer or Chrome). Both the radio and the computer must be on the same wireless network and running at the same time. Step 1 - Turn on the Ocean Digital unit and listen to any internet station (this step is merely to get the unit connected to the wireless network and running). Step 2 - Press the info button on the unit and scroll to IP Address ("Info - IP Address") while it is running and playing. > Information on the Internet - > IP”). On the Ocean Digital unit, you'll see the network address, which should be something like "xxx." xxx. x" is a letter that can be substituted for a number. Step 3 - Now turn on your computer, connect to the same wireless network, and type the IP address into the browser's address field (IE or Chrome is required). After that, you should see a screen labeled "Favorites," which will display a list of all the favorite stations currently stored in the Ocean Digital unit's memory. Step 4 - You'll see a section called "Add Favorites" at the bottom of that screen with an empty field where you can enter the custom station you want to program into the Ocean Digital unit. In that field, type the url address of the custom station (you must know the url address of any station you want to add as a custom station). In the Ocean Digital Favorites database, that station will now be listed as a Favorite. There are several good websites that list the url addresses for your custom stations if you need help finding them.

What is the level of specificity in the search function menu? Is it possible to find a specific progressive talk show host, for example?

The SEARCH function can only be used to find internet radio broadcasters in various international locations, such as Asia, Europe, and so on, and then a sub-section can be used to find internet radio broadcasters in specific countries. a search for countries in that international location, and then a sub-search for those countries In those countries, look for internet radio stations. Trying to find "personalities" - It is not possible to be a talk show host. In terms of the item itself - It's built and designed to perfection. It works well with the majority of AV component sets.

It's insanely good! I'm a dedicated but financially strapped hi-fi enthusiast

I'm not a huge fan of the term "audiophile," but I have something that the non-believers would consider valuable. I've spent 45 years as an aficionado of a ridiculously good stereo system. Just wanted to let you know. br>br>Despite having a good aerial and an excellent vintage tuner (Kenwood KT-100), the FM reception in my Bucks County location has been disappointing since I returned here a few months ago. 815). I'm very happy
5/5

This was set up to replace the tuner in my built-in Yamaha FM receiver, which was receiving poor reception. (I'm on the Olympic Peninsula's northernmost point in Washington. ) ) It took me a while because I'm not as flexible as I once was, ; ) However, I'm getting dozens of them now. dozens of stations (could be hundreds or even thousands, I suppose), including jazz, classical, and (hello, NYC's QXR, which I grew up listening to) even some outstanding old-fashioned radio stations that broadcast at different times br>Excellent sound through my large grown-up speakers. up speakers, excellent value. br>br>Update: 2019br>Thanks to the quick response from both Ocean Digital and Skytune, I was able to download a Skytune app that allows me to search, add, delete, or change internet stations on the unit from my laptop or PC. It goes without saying that this is far more convenient than using the receiver's tiny screen. Ocean Digital and Skytune, thank you once again!.

It has terrible WiFi management and uses a default website that no longer exists
3/5

To begin with, it attempts to use a website to assist you in finding radio stations as a default, but that website no longer exists. The good news is that you can manually enter your "favorites" if you don't want to change the default site. "The bad news is that the Wi-Fi isn't working. The reception on the cellular network is awful! I have 90% signal in the room and none of my other devices are having issues with any of my other devices are having issues with any of my other devices are having I have to manually reconnect to the Wi-Fi almost every time I turn it on. Even when it connects, it frequently disconnects in the middle of a song. It's frustrating because this device has the potential to be a great device, and with a firmware update, it could be, but as far as I can tell, there is no support for it.

It's a good product at a reasonable price
4/5

I've been looking for a replacement for my Revo Mondo Wifi internet tuner. The Revo is functional, but it only has five presets and is slow to switch stations and turn on. The Ocean Digital can hold a large number of (99? more? Within 5 seconds of turning on the device, it detects and tunes in to a variety of radio stations. Even though the screen is small, it is readable when standing in front of it. br>br>I haven't tried the unit's digital outputs yet, but it's nice to know that those who want to can use an external DAC. The height of the unit is standard. Despite its width, it lacks the ability to be mounted on a rack. I'm sure there are third-party rack-mount adapters available. assemble a crowd br>br>The standard RCA output has a low signal level. I need to change my pre-existing condition. To get a good volume, turn up the amp a little more than the Revo. It's not a huge issue, but it's enough to make me want to try using the digital outs with a DAC. br>br>The remote control that comes with the package is a basic and inexpensive device. It requires two AAA batteries, which are oddly absent. I already have a programmable remote, so I'm not expecting to need the original remote anytime soon. br>br>The unit claims to be DNLA capable, with FM built in, DAB, UPnP, and other features. I haven't tried any of these yet, but I expect they'll work fine. For a unit that costs around $150, one must keep their expectations in check. The only thing I don't like about it is how reliant it is on Skytune. net to add stations to presets or to cruise through a variety of stations. I'd rather be able to use the hard buttons dial on the unit instead of having to go through skytune all of the time - not that skytune is a bad website - but I'd prefer to be able to use the hard buttons dial on the unit instead of having to go through skytune all of the time. Not in the least. However, I like the concept of exploring radio stations with the remote or the unit itself. This reliance on Skytune is a limitation for those who are not computer savvy. It's time for you to visit Skytune. Use the net to locate a station, then use the IP address to send it to the tuner. This is a simple procedure for most people. Others are perplexed by dark magic. There should, in my opinion, be a simpler solution in the middle. br>br>There is one minor niggle: All of the stations I've programmed appear on the screen when I press the favorites button on the remote. However, the display is always set to preset 1 by default. Even if I'm listening to preset 28 right now, the list defaults to 1. When switching from one station to another, there is a lot of unnecessary scrolling. If you've memorized (or written down!) all of your presets, you're ready to go. ) then it's as simple as pressing the preset xx button on the remote. However, going through favorites is always a linear process that begins at the beginning, which I suppose is a good place to start, but I'd prefer if favorites began where I am. br>br>Overall, I'm happy with this unit and expect to enjoy it for many years.
