Questions & Answers

When I plug in my headphones, my unit does not turn off the speakers. What about you? Have you come up with a solution?

My headphone out is used to send audio to a self-powered unit with separate speakers and a subwoofer. When I do that, the squeezebox speakers work in tandem with the Brookstone tower powered unit to produce a richer audio experience. I believe headphones are only available in settings, possibly under line out. When I have some free time, I'll take a look at it.

Will this unit be able to connect to a Bluetooth device and stream or play music?

Although it lacks Bluetooth, it does include a standard stereo mini input jack. For around $20, you can purchase a small Bluetooth receiver and plug it into the jack to stream audio from your phone, tablet, PC, TV, or other Bluetooth device.

My Boom was purchased in 2010, but the firmware was never updated as shown in the videos. What is the procedure for updating the firmware on this device?

You simply cannot do so. Logitech has long since stopped making this product. br>br>Most buyers were pleased with the sound, but found the unit difficult to program. It took me months to master remote programming, and I still have issues now and then. Online assistance is either ineffective or non-existent. existent. The AC power connection, which is poorly designed, is one persistent hardware issue. This product is an excellent example of excellent audio engineering combined with poor product design. br>br>This product is completely obsolete in my opinion. Purchase an Amazon Alexa Echo device; Much more dependable, as well as incredibly simple to program. It doesn't have the same quality sound as the Logitech, but I only use it in a room at low volume, not in a ballroom where I'm dancing. br>br>My grandson used it to throw a party at maximum volume, which caused the DA/AC converter to fail. As a result, I can now tune to my heart's content and read what's supposed to be playing. That unit can be found in the local landfill, but there is no sound. br>br>If you're tired of programming this thing, toss it out and replace it with an Alexa Echo with Dolby sound (I saw one on eBay for $65), relax, and you'll live longer.

Is it possible to stream my iTunes library from my PC?

I'm aware that I can access songs that were previously saved to my computer. I've never loaded from ITUNES before, but I imagine it'd be similar. I never received operating instructions with my Squeezebox, but I believe information is still available online; best of luck.

The sound is fantastic
4/5

as soon as you've figured out how to make it work Fantastic sound, for example. Dislike; very difficult to set up until you figure it out, similar to Bose radios, which technology is most likely incorporated in this device. br>br>Dislike; very difficult to set up until you figure it out, similar to Bose radios, which technology is most likely incorporated in this device. br>br>Dislike; very difficult to set up until you figure it out, similar The manual is lengthy and insufficient. On-board computer by Logitech The customer service on the phone isn't particularly helpful. All you have to do now is turn it on once it's been set up. as well as wonderful music br>br>I notice in the reviews that many users experienced buffering, interruptions, and other issues, and I noticed this in my home, which is a floor away from the router, where the WiFi signal is adequate for the smartphone and PC but not for the Logitech Squeezebox Internet radio. br>br> I spent about $35 on a Netgear WiFi repeater, and the Squeezebox now works flawlessly. This explains why, for other users, connecting directly to the router via Ethernet (or via an ethernet-to-ethernet adapter) is a better option. The problem was solved with the purchase of a WiFi adapter (approximately $50). However, I blame Logitech engineers for failing to design a WiFi signal (RF) interface that is sufficiently sensitive.

Streaming/Internet Radio at its Finest
5/5

I've always been a radio fan (since the days of the tube), and the Squeezebox Boom is my third internet radio. I have a Roku Soundbridge R1000 and a Sangean WFR-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Additionally, there are 20. Each has its own advantages, but the Squeezebox Boom is undeniably superior. It raises the bar in terms of performance, capabilities, and ease of use. br>br>The Boom is the best option for wirelessly streaming your music collection from a PC or Mac because it can handle more formats (almost anything except DRM-protected iTunes files) and works without crashing or delays. The Roku is ranked 2nd, while the Sangean is ranked 3rd (crashes and stutters a lot). All of them work well for internet radio. br>br> The Sangean is the only one that can handle RealAudio Streams natively (such as the BBC), but it has issues with clear channel stations. Because they all pick up the stations I want without issue, I'm going to give this a tie. br>br>If you want to connect to online music services such as Rhapsody/Pandora/MP3Locker, the Boom is a great choice, as it has far more capacity than the other two. Slimdevices/Squeezebox also updates and improves their software much more frequently than the other two, so I expect it to maintain its lead in terms of features and services available. br>br>In terms of sound quality, the Roku and Boom are both excellent, while the Sangean is adequate but clearly inferior. In my room, the Roku's subwoofer seems to go a little deeper, but the Boom sounds smoother and more musical. The Boom is equipped with the same woofers and tweeters as the highly regarded Logitech Z-Series headphones. Because of the larger cabinet and new amp/equalizer circuitry, the bass is improved by a factor of ten. They both sound fantastic and play at a high volume. br>br>Ease of installation: If you're starting from scratch, I believe the Sangean is the most straightforward to set up if you don't want to stream audio from your computer. That's a major pain in the neck. Both the Boom and the Roku will require some additional effort. br>br>Ease of Use ONCE YOU'VE SET IT UP: By a long shot, Boom is the best. The menus are not only intuitive, but the illuminated controls make it the only radio that can be used without turning on the lights. The large control knob and backlit function buttons make it easy to navigate through all of the functions. br>br>As a clock radio, the Boom has more options than the competition, and the display has a large adjustment range, so it won't wake up light sleepers. All of these radios are a lot of fun. br>br> The Boom performs the majority of the tasks and does them exceptionally well.

This is a fantastic Internet radio station! The build quality is excellent
4/5

It has a finely polished surface and, despite being a small device, it is quite heavy for its size, indicating that Logitech used high-quality materials in its construction. br>Getting it to work the first time and after switching wifi networks can be a pain, and I've found that factory reset is the best solution in these situations. For this, I deduct half a star. br>The sound is incredible. Bass player who is very capable. br>It's a mystery why Logitech decided to discontinue this superior product; the best products are always phased out (think Kinect for Xbox).

After two disasters with Cables Unlimited's Audio Unlimited wireless speaker, I decided to purchase this one
4/5

My review of that sham can be found there for those who are interested. This, the Logitech Squeezebox Boom, is a different story. This is a fantastic piece of writing. It's a shame it's no longer available. Why did it come to an end? I'm not sure, but I'm guessing the unit is prohibitively expensive to produce. br>br>In any case, this is a visually appealing, incredibly capable, and well-sounding way to listen to nearly any type of music available. I use it with Slacker, and it's worked perfectly for me so far, both wirelessly and wired. Huge capabilities (the majority are built-in, but others are available for free on Logitech's website). If you enjoy music and find yourself juggling different music providers to get your fix, you should definitely check out this thing before it's too late. There's no need for a computer or anything else; just plug this box in and you can access almost anything, wirelessly (if you want) and with ease. br>br>My only criticism is that the sound, while excellent for what amounts to a mid-budget film, isn't quite up to par with the rest of the film. Unfortunately, I have a tin ear, so I can't tell you why, but I'm having a hard time finding speakers that I like, and I've already spent money on speakers. This is, in my opinion, a case where engineering went to great lengths to pack a lot of sound into a small package, and they succeeded; this thing sounds great. However, as previously stated, it falls a little short for my tastes. br>br>It's worth noting that you can improve the sound quality by connecting a separate subwoofer (which you can purchase separately). I've tried it, and it works well with most modern music, but not so well with golden oldies. If you do enough research on the product, you'll find that Logitech makes this clear up front. White Paper on Google Squeezebox I'd give it a perfect 5 star rating if the sound was just a little better. If I see one on sale, I'll buy it just to keep in the closet until the first one dies. Excellent product, excellent warranty, and excellent customer service based on the one call I made to Logitech prior to purchasing. br>br>Highly recommended. br>br>Edited on July 7, 2012: Every day, I fall more in love with this thing. Please, someone sell me a new, unsold item so I can have a backup in the box! But, after that, Logitech or Slacker won't support it, right? Oh well, it'll do for the time being. I've been looking forward to internet radio since the late 1960s!.
