The description of this product indicated that it came preassembled, so when I read it I figured it would come pre-assembled It's packed with US maps, so Alaska is included, because guess what, Alaska is part of the United States! We've been a state since 1959, guys. A map can be helpful. So we are right in line with the rest of the United States. Because we are not drawn to scale, it makes Texas feel bad that we are highlighted, but we are marked Then I found out that there is another unit that includes Canada maps that has a higher price tag but includes Alaska maps. The state of Alaska is NOT located in Canada! It is imperative that we repeat that Alaska is not a part of My goodness, I can't believe I need to share this with you. Currently, we are about to leave on a trip, so I don't have time to return this and buy another one. To find that my GPS that is supposedly preloaded with US maps with lifetime updates is actually missing 18 of them is extremely disheartening. The United States has 2% of the world population. I'm sorry Garmin, but you're right. In Alaska, 18 is the legal age. The freaking U. S. is 2% of the entire world, but you have failed to provide me with it, and you expect me to pay over my budget for all of Canada just to get 18%. Your failure to deliver on 2% was a huge oversight. What the heck kind of business model do you have to get away with shorting your customers nearly one fifth of what is promised? Go to school, You need to figure out what's going on. Being discriminated against because I live in Alaska is getting old for me.
Due to this, I had to travel longer distances to get him to his doctor and specialist appointments in strange cities. The reason I never drove much is because I never had a good sense of direction. The only way I could get places was by getting my husband to take me. Having just had a stroke, I had no choice but to be the driving force. I am relying on this GPS device to save my life. If I didn't have it, I wouldn't know what to do. When I hear that my husband has to drive to such and such a location, I am no longer hesitant to drive him because the GPS device will tell me exactly where to drive. As a result of my poor sense of direction, I was always afraid to drive. It would be a total nightmare for me if I had to take a detour on the road. My fear has been removed and I'm free from my self-induced limitations thanks to this device A prison sentence has been imposed. As well as this, I can get my husband where he needs to go when he needs to. Having this device in my possession would never be an inconvenience to me.
It is my hope that everyone who received one of these GPS units enjoyed it more than I did with mine. I received mine for Christmas and updated it and put it in a drawer until this summer. As a result, the car would turn off if it was not connected to the car's outlet, so I plugged it into the outlet that was always on to keep it Apparently, half way home, it flipped off and the next time I pressed the on/off button, the light came on and the next time it flipped off. A short in the power wire or a bad battery may be responsible for the problem. purchased four or five GPS units from Amazon over the past ten years and never had a problem with any of When you receive it, make sure you check it out well so that if you need to return it, you can do so immediately.
In preparation for a trip from Illinois to California, I bought this GPS unit to use as a backup for the Google Maps application on my Nexus 5. I found myself relying on the Garmin 99% of the time by the end of the trip, which is a stark contrast to the use of google maps that I do 99% of the time.
The reasons I prefer it to google maps are *1.
I really liked the split screen - it was very informative In unfamiliar areas, large road signs will guide you into lane, and upcoming stops can be displayed on top of the live map without having to navigate away from the It is likely not a problem with long stretches of highways, but in a city for example, it is handy to have the ability to put gas stations, restaurants, and rest stops on the map, without having to risk getting distracted from the map and losing your way. 2.
I found the "Up next" information to be the most useful during a long trip, as I considered it to be three of the most important things. On the map, it is convenient for you to see the food, fuel, and rest areas. In the event that the next service station outside of that one (whose distance is also shown in the What's Up Next information) is 100 miles away, I would be able to fill up with fuel at the next service station. The additional fuel saved me from running out of fuel several times while I was traveling between AZ, NM, and NV. 1. 2. 3. Having the current speed limit on signs was very helpful, but only about 100 yards from the actual speed limit (i. e. Within 100 yards of the posted speed limit signs, the GPS caught up with the signed speed limit). There is no information like this on google maps, which does not offer any of these features. 4.
You can use our offline navigation feature! Having a dedicated GPS unit was already the major reason I purchased it, and I did not regret it! It gives me the willies to imagine that there would be no navigation in the middle of Arizona or Utah due to lack of wireless Following the use of a dedicated GPS (although I have always been skeptical of it's usefulness over google maps), I will say that I probably will use this GPS for all my long distance driving instead of using my phone (and leaving it always plugged in). Although I still prefer Google maps/Waze for navigation in inner cities because the traffic report is nearly instantaneous.
As far as GPSes go, this is one of the best. There are several (and I still have two) Garmin GPS units that I own, and I'm always satisfied with them. Aside from the sharpness and color saturation, the only difference I noticed between this and an older Nuvi is the display. The colors on this newer Drive seem (at least to my eye) to be a little muted compared to those on the original It appears that the GPS body is made of a thinner/cheaper plastic as well. It appears to be a promising unit other than that. The satellite update went pretty smoothly, and it picked up the updated signal The update should be performed after your phone has been fully charged. The battery in mine was almost fully charged when it arrived. After the unit was partially charged, I tried to update it before it was fully charged and the unit kept dying. All went well after letting the battery charge for an hour or so.
This is a highly recommended book. I bought it for $46 and I was very happy with it.
